Say, what China is doing to the people/culture of Tibet: they're not going to use  horror movies to change people's perception of Tibetans, they're literally trying to stamp them out of existence. I just don't get why you brought up this specifically as an example of how Midsommar is a harmful influence. 

I’m not disagreeing that certain uneducated people would probably conflate certain traditional clothing and practices with things depicted in the film (and make insensitive comments like “oh, like Midsommar, lolol”), but I also feel that Midsommar never advertised itself as an ‘accurate and historical depiction of X culture’ and the practices they showed that were horrific weren’t depicted as the actions of a sane group of people that have been traditionally practicing ritualized rape, incest, and otherwise as part of their native culture. These kinds of people would make insensitive comparisons of media and real cultures no matter what the intent of said media was.

broke: midsommar is a girl power movie

woke: midsommar is a horror movie about a manipulative cult

bespoke: midsommar is a litmus test to tell how easily you could be indoctrinated into a cult and if your first thought after watching it is that it was a girl power movie you’re very susceptible to cult tactics and you should be aware of that

I’m getting a style consultation and I actually think it’s really important for everyone to try it at least once. It’s not about following trends or buying a new wardrobe full of clothes, it’s not getting rid of your personal style so much as defining what your personal style actually is and being able to feel confident when you walk outside knowing you look good and feel good about the way you appear and come across to others without words.
