Sometimes I think the devs forget that this isn’t just a monster collector, and that most of the “monsters” we collect have had LIVES before becoming yo-kai. They all have backstories and personalities and so much could be done with each and every yo-kai. So much potential for stories and different kinds of relationships with the player, but most get relegated to the crank-a-kai or fetch quests.

While one could make an argument that relationships were developed in the anime, most of those interactions were hammed-up for comedy reasons (I like the anime just fine, I just think it’s missed potential, and it should take a page from the games’ book and take itself a bit more seriously).

If Yo-Kai Watch ever makes a comeback, I wish they would put in a mechanic where you could talk to and hang out with your yo-kai friends. Some of the issues like lack of lore and personality to the yo-kai would be able to be fixed there as well.

I truly wish there was more Yo-Kai Watch fan content 😭. I enjoy writing fan fiction and I’m glad we can both share the sentiment of wanting to add more fan content, because this franchise really deserves it.

I headcanon that once a yo-kai befriends a human, they are very DEVOTED to that human. Like, “See this human? This is MY human! And if you touch them with the slightest bit of ill intent, you are DEAD. And I’ll come and beat your ass in the afterlife too!”

This is why the more powerful yo-kai are more difficult to befriend. I’m kind of piggybacking off that one headcanon I read where yo-kai feel territorial toward their human friend(s). They feel compelled to protect, so the more powerful the yo-kai, the longer it takes to befriend them- they want to truly get to know the human first. They want to make absolutely sure that their power and devotion wouldn’t be exploited.
