I Was About To Add Commentary To The Nice Art I Just Reblogged But Thought It Would Probably Come Off

I was about to add commentary to the nice art I just reblogged but thought it would probably come off shady by accident fkckfk.

But Julian is canonically 28 in S1. We don't know Garak's age- in Improbable Cause he says Mila has worked for Tain for over thirty years, which could technically imply a thirty-something year old Garak, but A) we don't know how long Cardassian years are relative to Terran years and B) Garak is a notoriously evasive liar. Andy Robinson is 23 years older than Alexander Siddig, so I always head canon Garak as at least 20 years (or the sci-fi equivalent thereof) older that Julian- solidly middle aged, late 40s/early 50s. So yeah, Garashir insane age gap is real and makes their Whole Deal very funny to me.

Also I was curious so I looked it up just now and O'Brien is canonically 41 in S1 which also makes their Whole Thing very funny to me as well kxkckc

Everyone's all like "oooh, Garak is so mysterious" "Garak is an undecipherable enigma". No he's not, Garak is an open book, which is impressive considering that he is also a pathological liar. Like, he goes out of his way to avoid saying anything true, but at the same time he is incredibly open about his motives and allegiances.

especially the lies the truth is oozing out of every lie he tells what i especially love about asit is the bit where remara is gonna kill him and he tells her an obvious lie about his trying to stop her husband and sons death. and he (internally ofc) makes a comment to the affect of having trouble keeping all the stories straighf so its like the whole book could be a lie to some degree. but that doesnt even matter. what matters is that the sentimates behind every line are painfully true. its suggested he doesnt even know the complete truth of his life anymore. but does the story of ones life in actuality really matter more than the story as the narrator sees it. isnt that the real truth anyway. when you look at the shit he says through this lense. yea he is constantly bearing his whole soul to anyone thatā€™ll listen he doesnā€™t just have a ā€˜need for conversationā€™ he has a need to be open and honest in the only capacity he can be hes practically screaming at everyone he meets to /see/ him. to please see beyond fhe obfuscation. to listen and hear what hes really saying when youre whole life has been built on a house of cards filled with lies you have to get creative if you want to engage in the mortal ordeal of being known this is why him and bashir latch on to eachother. bashir can spot that shit from a mile awayeven if he doesnt fully know what hes looking at at first. he just gets the sense of what garak is trying to tell him. the mystery draws him in at first. but once he gets close enough he goes ā€˜oh. oh yea me too. i see you. i see the burden youve been forced to cary and what its done to u.does that mean you can see me too?ā€™

I really like those small moments when Spock kinda forgets himself for a minute because he's worried about Bones or Kirk. Like, it's so minor and it's a "blink and you'll miss it" sort of thing but I love it.

I'm watching "For the world is hollow and I've touched the sky" and There's a scene where Kirk tells him Bones has a terminal illness and he briefly touches Bones' shoulder while he's struggling to sit up and the look he has on his face idk. I personally think it was worry! He cares about Bones, despite the constant jibes. And he just found out he's ill.

I thought that was pretty sweet way of showing an aspect of Spock's character that isn't as in your face as others.. Really nice subtly there.

Why Julian is so livid in "In the Pale Moonlight" when Sisko tells him to hand over 85 liters of the biomimetic gel to some random person with no questions asked. In addition to the ethical/legal reasons of not wanting to give out a very controlled substance that can be used for bad things...

There's also the fact that he was nearly murdered three years before for a TINY FRACTION of that amount of that stuff. In "Distant Voices" the Lethean asked for a few hundred milliliters.

At most, that's 500 milliliters. So the math says that Julian was attacked for 0.58% of Sisko's order.

Can you imagine being told (by someone who you're personally close to) to hand over, no questions asked, such a huge amount, 170 times the amount, of a restricted substance that you barely survived being murdered for?
