The glasses were originally Dr.Watanabe's from years before Ray was created. Ray was gifted them by the doctor only a few days before the doc died, since he felt that Ray needed them more than he did.

The glasses ARE prescription glasses, but Ray inherited Dr.Watanabe's early nearsightedness, so he doesn't get a headache wearing them.
