Concerning Chocobos...
A Brief History

The popular mount that is used across Eorzea is a native of Dravania, specifically the Chocobo Forests in the Dravanian Forelands. Being in such close proximity to this native and wild population, the art of breeding, raising, and training chocobos has been long held in Ishgard. House Fortemps in particular has taken on this hallowed task.
In the years before the Calamity, Ishgard was wrought with a plague amongst its breeding stock and temporarily halted exportation of chocobos across the realm in order to contain the contamination. As the illness ebbed, the standard has been to export mostly male chocobos to Grand Companies in order to control excessive breeding. Private buyers may acquire chocobos of any gender or persuasion.
The Cool(er) Chocobo
Chocobos come in a variety of colors and their plumage can be altered to fit its rider's tastes and chocobo's personality by changing its diet. The most common colors are yellow, as seen across much of Eoreza and in the distribution queue of the Grand Companies of Eorzea, and black, which is objectively the better color.

Black chocobos are the purebred of Ishgard and tend to be more muscular and obedient. In the last five-to-ten years, several of these mighty steeds have spotted doing squats while idle.
Unicorns?
We have been asked a few times why the unicorn has not been the traditional mount of Ishgard, especially given its use in family seals.
I ask: have you attempted to hastily mount a unicorn during battle? Nay? There are accounts of many knights who tried and got on the wrong end only to suffer irreparable damages. Given the smooth cranium and lack of natural spikes on their heads, chocobos are easily the preferable mount.

Why You Should Own A Chocobo
There are several reasons to own a chocobo!
They are oft the most accessible form of transportation without the use or your feet or aetherytes.
They can be accessorized with fun outfits and cute hats.
Their preferred diet is cheap and easy.
They are pre-trained to be called from great distances.
Most city-states have chocobo stables to house your bird while you visit.
But more importantly...why you should own an Ishgardian Chocobo:
You're supporting the Holy See!
Knowledge that your chocobo has supported the chain-mailed posterior of Ishgardian Knights for centuries.
"Kweh" but with a real Ishgardian accent. Kwéh!
Black goes with everything.
Chocobos are more than mere mounts and make for fantastic companions. Should you wish to try riding a chocobo for the first time, see your local chocobo porter today.

And for those who have chocobos...what did you name yours? Pray tell us in the comments, your reblogs, or tags.
“Violence is never the answer,” the monk says, pumping a shotgun. “But you don’t always have to be right.”
