Just know that SHINee World is cheering you on, and Jonghyun is always by your side. Thank you for wanting to do what you think Jonghyun would want, despite your pain. To our strong pillar Minho, your heart is so big it’s a wonder it can fit in your chest. When I feel your love, it feels like my own heart is going to burst. And to our maknae Taeminnie, I hope you can feel the love I am sending to you. You have never been one to show many negative emotions—you always tried to hide your tears. I worried so much for you. Know that Jonghyun will always look down on you and cheer you on. He was and always will be your biggest fan, after all. He was always there to support you, always the first to cheer your name, and that’s no different even now. We all love you so much. Please, let yourself rest now. Don’t try to hold it in—we will always be here as a shoulder for you to cry on.

And to Jonghyunnie. Our Jonghyunnie. I hope you can see how strong your brothers are, and your mother. Keep watching over them. Keep giving them strength. They miss you so much. Minho is right, nothing can replace you. But we all know that even though you won’t be there physically, you will still be by their sides in everything they do. SHINee will always be five.

I believe that the Golden Disk Awards this year had the some of the most moving tributes for Jonghyun. From IU’s touching speech about mental health, self-care, and grieving to seeing Yeri crying during IU’s encore stage to hearing Jonghyun’s comforting words with Lee Hi’s breathtaking performance of ‘Breathe’ to Taeyeon’s tears while watching Lee Hi’s performance to Leeteuk’s speech asking everyone to always remember Jonghyun, all of these moments have showed us the impact that Jonghyun has had on his fellow artists’. 

Thank you Golden Disk Awards for remembering Jonghyun. Thank IU for reminding people that artists and idols are still human  Thank you Yeri for being strong at such a young age. Death is such a foreign concept to many of us until we are faced with it suddenly and it can suffocating but you are fighting so well.  Thank you Lee Hi for having the courage to sing ‘Breathe’ because I couldn’t imagine how hard it was for you to decide to do this. I broke down when you cried during ‘Breathe’ Thank you Taeyeon for still being strong despite the pain (and congrats on both yours AND SNSD’s Bonsang because I didn’t expect SNSD to get one!!) Thank you Leeteuk for reminding us to always remember Jonghyun and to support the rest of the SHINee members.  Thank you to all the other artists who joined in remembering Jonghyun of all the times he has given us comfort and peace at mind with his words and music. All of you give each of us so much joy and happiness every day. Like IU said, always remember however that your happiness comes first.

leeteuk’s speech at the gdas 💔 thank you for everything;

IU really took the time to acknowledge Jonghyun and the importance of mental health during her DAESANG speech, a moment that’s supposed to be all about celebrating her and her accomplishments as a musician… she could’ve used her speech to say the usual thank yous and I love yous to her fans, family, and friends, but this angel on earth took it one step further and congratulated all the other idols/artists for their hard work and reminded them that putting yourself first is completely okay and being unhappy sometimes is not a sign of weakness. Not only did she admit to millions of people that she’s felt the similar depression Jonghyun had (which mind you is a huge deal bc of how much of a public figure IU is and how literally so many fans and artists look up to her), but she willingly talked about all of this in front of so many young people and idols from every company, not to mention the fact that she was brave enough to do so in a society that looks down on mental health and illness in general… IU really did that and the audience thinks it’s okay to blatantly scream and yell when their faves are on the screen for like a second while she’s talking and giving an important message no one else is willing to discuss???? This isn’t only a message to K-fans but to all of you: yes, supporting your faves and hyping them up is okay – that’s what you do as fans, of course. But to completely disrespect other artists, ESPECIALLY when they are having their well-deserved moment to shine, makes you a person that no artist will ever be proud to have as a member of their fanbase. Remember that behaving like an asshole isn’t only going to affect you – your actions are going to reflect the reputation of your fandom as a whole, and eventually they will reflect the reputation of the idol(s) you support.

“To be honest, I’m still very sad. I sent off someone that was precious to me as a person, as a friend and as an artist to a very far away place. I think I partly understand why he was in such pain and suffered so much, it’s not an emotion that I’m completely unfamiliar with. I’m still very sad and I feel apologetic to him a lot. I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling this sadness. But we’re people whose daily lives are so busy and we have to plan for our next month, next year.  It’s sad and frustrating that our reality will not allow us to dwell on that sadness for as long as we want. Cheering when you’re happy, crying when you’re sad, being weak when you’re sick and not being at your best when you’re sick, I hope these natural things can be expressed without concern by artists and those who see them (in this condition) don’t think much of it either. Artists are people who are supposed to console others and I get they are professionals, but I hope they will take care of themselves first as they are people too and console themselves so they don’t get sick and hurt while they are trying to hide these things. I truly, sincerely hope this doesn’t happen. I’m sure everyone is busy today and they have things to do tomorrow but I hope that all those who have won today can enjoy and celebrate today before they get a good night’s sleep and that is what I will do as well. Rest in Peace, Kim Jonghyun.

For all the people who didn’t know him… Jonghyun was everything you could wish for in and idol and more. Beyond his talent, no one could talk to him without gushing about what a good person he was. He was just that lovable and kind. Jonghyun was always outspoken about mental health, lgbtq rights, and inequality. He was always the first one to cry, but he was also always the first one to laugh. He poured his soul into composing and writing music. He suffered from insomnia, but always gave 100% energy on the stage. He liked silly jokes, ballads, and staying indoors. He had one of those voices that could make you cry just by listening to it. He was so kind, gentle, open, and talented. His life was short, but I won’t ever be able to forget him.

Reminder that Jonghyun would still want you to take care of yourselves, even in a time as hard as this is. 

Please don’t forget to eat, even if you can only handle something small. Taking a hot bath or a shower will help make you feel better, physically and mentally. Don’t feel guilty about needing a distraction from this or doing something to help make you can feel happy. Don’t be afraid to cry as much as you need to about this either, you’ll feel better, just make sure to drink water once you’re calm again. Go easy on yourself, it’s okay to not feel up to certain tasks right now. And lastly, talk to someone about how you’re feeling or to relive the good memories, it’s okay to ask for the help if that’s what you need.

important things no one remembers about kim seokjin

he came into big hit with absolutely zero singing or dancing experience (unlike all the other members minus v) and had to put in an incredible amount of effort and hard work to meet their level of talent, proving that hard work does pay off and can be just as good as talent.

he spends the allowance he gets from his parents on ingredients. not just for himself; he selflessly uses his own money to make meals for all of the members to enjoy with him. 

he’s the one that mediates the group and stops jokes before they go too far. I guarantee you, if seokjin wasn’t in the group, there would probably be a lot more group infighting.

he literally drives jungkook to school. without him jungkook would probably be a highschool dropout tbh

pretty much everyone in bangtan has hinted at some point that he’s the strongest member in the group. if you thought jimin or jungkook was ripped weLL have I got a surprise 4 u

oh, and if u like how jungkook has muscles, just remember he only started working out because he started going with jin to the gym 

that one time they asked him his ideal type and he started talking about how much he likes dogs

he literally carries around a spoon and special chopsticks. if that is not the most adorable fucking thing

people always talk about how relatable he is bc of his love for food and his handsomeness, but more important than that is that he’s willing to show himself eating to people - as an idol. He’s one of the few idols that projects a healthy image to everyone, by letting them know it’s okay to eat. he shows that you don’t have to starve yourself to be beautiful (i mean, just look at him !) 

he also shows that you are allowed to be confident in your looks. how many times do we hear idols say “oh no…i don’t think i’m handsome” or only say they’re handsome as a joke? jin isn’t afraid to be self-confident and show he has high self-esteem and it’s so important for young people to see and hear and know it’s okay to feel like that. 

jin is just such a good and lovely role model (he’s truly hard working, selfless, diplomatic, nurturing, kind, adorable, silly, and mentally and physically healthy) and I wish more people would see and appreciate that about him. let’s all be more like kim seokjin. the world would be a better place
