Breaking the Break Chapter 5

The sun was just rising when Frey woke up. Cuff was whistling the tune that Cinta was going to sing to Frey but it sounded like he was mocking the song. Frey wanted to tell him to stop but knew that he would continue mocking the song. It was a very long walk out of Praenost. And the monsters made it even longer.

A Breakzombie came at Frey, hands raised and ready to tear her to bits. Frey dodged to one side. Cuff silently cheered for the zombie to win. But Frey eventually won. Cuff 'ooh'd and Frey rolled her eyes. They continued walking. Eventually, things got very interesting for them.

Frey was just finishing walking through Praenost when she heard shouting.

"Help!" Someone yelled.

Cuff stopped whistling and Frey froze.

"Did you just hear that?" She asked Cuff.

"Yes. Indeed I have." Frey turned and walked in the direction of the shouting. "Where are you going?"

"My Tanta instincts want me to check this out." Frey said and looked down the cliff, trying to find some safe way to get down.

"Frey. This is suicide." Cuff said.

Cuff jumped down from the cliff and used the Torana to get to the ground safely. "Why do you care?"

"I don't care! I'm just trying to tell you that it could be a trap!" Cuff protested.

Frey rolled her eyes and ignored him. She did a Cuff scan. No monsters were nearby. Frey cleared her throat and cupped her hands around her mouth.

"Where are you?" She yelled.

"Here. In the cave!" The voice answered.

Frey followed the voice, getting further and further from Avoalet. She picked her way carefully through the Break, sometimes fighting a few Breakzombies. Eventually, she found it. The cave was dug into the wall of a cave. Ivy hung over the entrance, nearly obscuring it. Frey pushed the ivy out of the way and walked into the cave.

The air dropped and she could sense powerful magic. Break shards weren't to be seen and the air felt... Clean. Frey could feel Cuff trying to see if enemies were nearby. But both Frey and Cuff couldn't sense any enemies.

They entered a room and saw a couple of kids surrounding a fire. They had their hands out, warming themselves. Scraps of food lay around. Most of it were the ends of strawberries. A girl looked up at Frey with wide eyes.

"Frenk." She whispered and shuffled backwards.

Frenk looked up and also shuffled backwards. "Good job Reyna. You summoned the monsters again."

Frey raised her hands and knelt down. "I am Tanta Frey. Protector of Athia. I'm here to save you." She said softly.

Reyna tilts her head. "You sure?" She asked and Frey nodded.

"Where are we going?" Frenk asked, standing up and trying to make himself look tougher.

Cuff scoffed at Frenk. "If that little kid knew what was on your arm he wouldn't be acting all tough and mighty." He said haughtily.

Frey ignored him. "We're going to Cipal."

Frenk hesitated. Then nodded. Frey smiled and turned around to walk away. Reyna kicked dirt at the fire, smothering it. Then she and Frenk ran after Frey to catch up to her. Frey frowned. Why was the Break less here than it was in the outside world?

"Why is the cave resistant to the Break?" She asked Reyna, who was skipping beside her.

"Tanta Cinta and Tanta Olas did that. Before they turned completely mad they made sure there was a safe place, just in case the children ever gotten separated from their mothers. Or if others got separated."

Frey nodded, now understanding.

"So, what are you the Tanta of?" Frenk asked, catching up to Frey.

Frey shrugged. "Not sure. I never gave it much thought. But thinking about it now. I could be the Tanta of Freedom." Frey shrugged. "I don't know."

Frey stopped and raised her hands. "Alright. Let's find out if I can use the torana to get you guys to Cipal safely."

Frey moved her hands around and a torana appeared with a whooshing sound. Frey gave a shocked laugh, surprised that that worked. She clapped her hands together and rubbed them.

"Alright. In we go." She stepped through the torana, making sure the kids followed her.

Frenk gasped and ran towards a woman, Reyna not too far behind him.

"Mummy!" They shrieked.

Their mother turned around and her eyes lit up with joy. She bent down and let the kids collapse into her arms. She closed her eyes and hugged them, not letting go. Then she looked up at Frey and mouthed 'Thank you'. Frey smiled and shrugged.

"A touching scene but we should be going now." Cuff said in a bored tone.

Frey rolled her eyes. "Just because you're incapable of showing any real emotions doesn't mean that you should ruin a beautiful scene."

Cuff muttered something under his breath. Frey put her hands on her hips and raised her eyebrow.

"What was that?" She asked.

"Nothing." Cuff said quickly. "Now. Let's go. Avoalet is waiting."

Frey shook her head with a smile then turned and walked through the gates of Cipal.

Breaking the Break Chapter 2

"Do you really have to find the sceptre of the Tantas?" Cuff whined.

Frey rolled her eyes and ignored him. Cuff, not liking being ignored, tried to annoy her again.

"I'm cold!" He whined. "I'm bored. Freeeeyy!"

Frey stopped and looked at the cuff on her arm. "Really?"

Cuff remained quiet, pretending he didn't say anything.

"Cuff. Stop being an asshole. It's not that bad. I have to defeat the Break."

She continued jogging. Cuff 'hmphed' and Frey smiled, imagining him crossing his arms. When they got to the desert Cuff acted up again.

"It's hot!" He whined. "I'm bored. I'm hungry! I'm thirsty! I'm tired!"

Frey rolled her eyes again but ignored him. For the next thirty minutes Cuff continued to annoy Frey. Frey continued jogging to Praenost, trying to ignored the whining Demon on her arm. Once Frey passed an apple tree Cuff perked up.

"An apple tree! Let's stop and eat." He suggested.

"Cuff. You're a Demon. You don't eat. The only thing you know is death and destruction." Frey said, continuing to jog towards Praenost.

"Aww. You're not being nice. Then we should stop for a rest."

"Cuff. Again, you're a Demon. You know no rest. You don't eat. You don't sleep. You're just a Demon. Stop. Being. Childish." Frey mumbled.

Cuff hmphed and crossed his arms, going quiet for a bit. Frey sighed, thankful for the silence. They jogged through the desert and, after a while, Frey had to sit down for a spell. She put firewood on the ground and lit it up.

"You do realise that fire can attract the monsters right?"

Frey remained quiet, not wanting to engage in contact with the Demon her arm. Cuff continued.

"I do hope that happens. Or that you fall in fire! Now that would be amazing. Ahh. I can taste the freedom already." He chuckled.

Frey rolled her eyes and stood up, kicking dirt on the fire. Cuff made a disappointing sound and Frey continued jogging towards Praenost. Monsters did not disturb her. She entered Praenost, unharmed but very annoyed. For Cuff had learned to whistle.

Will never understand why Cuff betrayed Frey. Did freedom taste better than friendship? Idc if he was a Demon made for death and destruction. If I was Cuff I'd try to not do death and destruction
