I feel this so badly. And like, if you do like soulmate aus, thats fine, whatever, you do you. But, just... some of the ways I've seen people talk about adapting soulmate aus to aspec people has been frankly insulting.

For context I'm aroace and non-partnering, which means I don't want a partner of any kind- romantic, qpr, poly, whatever. I don't want that for me. So you see how we might run into some issues here.

And like, I can remember one person proposed that "well, aromantic people can have pets as their soulmates! :) :)". Like wtf?? No???

Or the ones where 'you see everything in black and white until you meet your soulmate :D'. Like wtf, I am not missing some vital part of me just because I haven't met, and don't want ""the one"". That is just telling me that I am seen as incomplete because of who I am and what I want for my life. I am a whole ass complete individual on my own. I don't require any other person to complete me.

Just PLEASE. Maybe just take the time to admit, even just in your own head, or when you talk about the idea, it doesn't even have to be in your writing or your aus. Just maybe admit that a society built around the concept of soulmates would be discriminatory, that there is no way of making it work for everyone. Just, please, be willing to engage with that idea without the need to go "well non-partnering people can have pets as soulmates. Or friends as soulmates". Yes, I know you mean well but please stop. Please stop and listen when I say that I don't want a partner of any kind. Please listen when I say that the idea of centering my entire life around a single person fills me with existential horror.

Because its okay that your AU won't work for everybody, just don't force the people that it doesn't work for into your framework.
