Wild Kratts Theory: Zach’s Obsession with Being Rich and Famous

Besides wanting to be acclaimed as the world’s best and smartest inventor, Zach Varmitech has an obsession with becoming rich and famous, or richer and more famous in his case, by any means possible. From creating his own arctic ice hotel to farming every vegetable and fish in the sea to sell, this man will attempt anything to further his quest for power and status. But I’ve often wondered why Zach has such a large void he needs to fill. Thus, I have my own theory as to why the inventor always feels he needs more in his life.

First off, I believe that Zach was quite poor as a child. From his appearance in the flashback in “Tazzy Chris”, Zach appears to be slightly unkempt, wearing baggy clothes and having his hair not as neat as his usual adult look. His loose clothes as opposed to the young Kratt brothers’ more fitting clothing leads me to believe that his clothes were second hand or hand-me-downs that were meant for him to grow into, meaning there was not enough money for his family to keep buying him new clothes as he grew. You can see this is quite the opposite of how his keeps himself as an adult, making sure his clothes are form fitting and his hair is perfectly styled with everything in its place. He wants to be in total control, as opposed to the chaos of his childhood.

Also, quick side note, the robot he made as a child appears to be made of random junk that he could have found around town very Louis from “Meet The Robinsons” style, something that a young boy with no excess money would have to do if he wanted to make robots.

Looking back on this scene as well, I noticed that the flashback is set up showing the Kratt brothers picking on Zach, almost in a bullying way. Their stance towards the young inventor is pretty threatening, and although I know that they’re going after him because they’re trying to protect the frogs, the way it’s portrayed in the scene shows Zach as a victim. From the way we see Zach’s sad expression and sniffle after the flashback, you can tell that this was a regular thing that happened during his childhood that has left him with permanent trauma. Perhaps it wasn’t even just his conflict with the Kratt brothers, but other kids in his neighbourhood who would pick on him because of his family’s financial situation.

Speaking of Zach’s family, it appears to be only his mother in the picture. Zach has mentioned his mother before in the show, but has never once mentioned his father. My opinion is that it was only Zach’s mother who raised him, leaving him no father figure to look up to or rely on. Instead, he had to be the man of the house and slowly grew into the man of complete power and control he believed he should be.

As well, I’d like to mention that Zach has constantly been upstaged by Aviva for most of his life. They met as kids in a summer science camp, where Aviva’s inventions were constantly seen as better than his own. This is mentioned in “Cheetah Racer” when Aviva points out that at science camp her potato clock kept time better than Zach’s mouldy bread clock (I personally think it’s amazing as well as very out of the box thinking that he got a clock working from bread mould even if it didn’t keep time as well as a generic potato clock). Being repeatedly pushed to the sidelines by his rival would definitely make the inventor want to seek fame, as much as he could to prove that he is better and more important than Aviva.

In conclusion, I believe that Zach’s endless quest for money and fame stems back to his childhood. His need for wealth comes from him being a child of poverty. He wants to make sure that he’ll never be poor again, which has led to his obsession with being excessively rich. And his desire for fame and attention comes from his need to prove his worth to everyone who ever doubted him as a child, be that those kids who teased him or his main rival, Aviva Corcovado.

Anyways, just my thoughts about Zach and why he has such a big hole in his life to fill. I just wanna give him a giant panda bear hug and tell him everything is gonna be alright. Poor Zach has been teased so much in his life for his shortcomings and he deserves some love! Let me know what you guys think of this as well!

I totally believe this is true. You can see it a bit here when his hair is soaked. Most of it looks wet and straight, but there’s that little curl sticking up at the end! And even the wet hair looks as if it could have been straightened out before hand. Zach just got splashed here and if he didn’t fix his hair right after, we might have seen his hair dry and bounce back into curls!

You can also see it a bit when he’s a kid. He’s not using gel yet, but most of his hair looks like it’s been straightened. You could argue that it just looks like he has naturally straight hair, but again you see those little sprigs on top! Not to mention his hair dives into a bit of a wave, which tells me that his natural wavy hair is trying to emerge. As someone with naturally wavy hair, I can tell you that even straightened the hair goes into a bit of a curve on the ends. Probably the reason he eventually started using hair gel: to keep his hair neat and perfect like he wanted it to be.

Curly Haired Zach Confirmed?

So that stray piece of hair that usually goes across Zach’s forehead is sticking straight up here, and, in my humble opinion, it looks curly. I know it always looks wavy across his forehead, but this is a bit different. It is more noticeable from this perspective, I guess.

This leads me to wonder if Zach MIGHT have wavy or curly hair. Even if this is the case, I feel like he would do everything in his power to ensure that it was sleek and straight, to avoid looking "messy" if in fact his hair is naturally curly/wavy. I know many of us have headcanoned that Zach uses a ton of hair spray/ hair gel to maintain his "perfect hairdo."

But, and I'm unsure if anyone has discussed this before, MAYBE he uses such excessive amounts of hairspray or gel after he straightens his hair? He will straighten his hair then spray or gel it to keep it from doing...well, what we see in this picture.

So, I guess this is a new headcanon for Zach, anyone agree?

Wild Kratts Theory: Zach’s Invisibility Cloak

I recently watched the episode “The Vanishing Stingray” for the first time and I found that the episode’s villain plot was very open ended, perhaps for a very specific reason.

In the episode, we learn that Zach’s invisibility cloak, which he has deemed his most genius invention, has an unfortunate glitch. The cloak works perfectly unless it gets wet, which causes the invisibility element to glitch and shut off, allowing you to be able to see the wearer.

Zach tries to remedy this problem by attempting to steal Aviva’s new stingray creature power discs, as he believes the discs house the secret to fixing the glitch due to the fact that stingrays can make themselves invisible under water. His attempt to take the discs fails and Zach is actually not seen in person by any of the crew as his plot in the episode ends, only via a hologram projection. Now here’s where it gets interesting.

After the brief hologram interaction with Zach, Martin questions why Zach went after them, saying “Hey, so what did Zach want anyway?”. I think this is the first time I’ve seen none of the crew figure out a villain plot, which definitely gives Zach an advantage. Only he knows that his invisibility cloak doesn’t work when wet and he believes Aviva’s technology is the secret to fixing the problem.

Now, we know that Zach’s invisibility cloak is his most clever invention, seeing as it was revealed in “Back In Creature Time” alongside Aviva’s very important time trampoline. Unlike most of his other inventions, the cloak allows Zach to get away with his evil plans each time he uses it, like how he used it in “Back In Creature Time” to capture Koki and Jimmy and cut off their communication with the others, as well as in “Creepy Creatures” when he was able to successfully steal the miniaturizer while wearing it. We can see the prominence of this invention well over his others, so the fact that they left this plot in “The Vanishing Stingray” very open ended was quite odd to me… Or so I thought.

After some thinking, I came to the idea that this was done deliberately as a prelude to a larger plot, namely for the Wild Kratts movie. The movie would most likely revolve around some big plot about Aviva’s inventions, such as the time trampoline or maybe even a new one, so it would make sense that Zach would be using his invisibility cloak opposite her creation.

In my opinion, I believe there’s going to be a larger plot to further Zach’s quest to fix his invisibility cloak by using Aviva’s technology. I also think that within that continued plot, the crew will eventually find out about the cloak’s weakness and use that to their advantage. I can just picture Koki casually using a spray bottle around the Tortuga to check if Zach is around! Haha!

Anyways, just some thoughts from me! I haven’t seen all of season 6 yet, so I’m not sure if they’ve done anything else around Zach’s invisibility cloak, but I really hope they use this open ended plot in some way! Let me know what you guys think!
