Should I finally write down my ideas for a payneland fic or should I just keep using it as a scenario I make up in my head before going to bed.

That is the million dollar question.

Had the craziest fever(half drunk) dream in which the dbda fandom decided to hop onto the Netflix Roblox games (they’ve been advertised for geek week) and do a Roblox protest hahahaha it was low key so funny but the best part was that it actually worked but I unfortunately woke up and had to question my sanity and go touch some grass.

If a roblox protest is what it takes to have our boys back then so be it.

Oh how I love making these book covers… Here’s another one gathering three different dbd fics together because they were a little small to be one book each but too long for me to stay on screen, so I put them together to make one bigger book :)

Wayyyy later than what I expected to finish, I'm finally finished with my Payneland fencing fic! Thank you so much to everybody that offered themselves as my beta, I really appreciate that!

Relationships: Edwin Payne/Charles Rowland, Edwin Payne & Charles Rowland (the fic focus on their friendship specifically, the romance is just an ending bonus).

Rating: gen

Trigger warnings: blades/ fencing, dysfunctional gays, Charles that's so fucking gay you cannot say that to your platonic best friend,

Other stuff: fencer Edwin Payne, touch starved Charles & touch starved Edwin if you squint, love confession, hurt/comfort, eventual cuddling, teens being teens, slight miscommunication the first half of the fic, okay they're really miscommunicating at the start but it gets better don't worry!

Edwin and Charles' friendship come first before anything else, before any romantic feelings ever even started. This is why when shortly after Port Townsend when Charles is starting to act off and Edwin feels it's because of his confession affecting them, although Charles is denying the accusation, he confronts Charles to talk with him again the way they do things: He makes him fence with him.

And Charles can never tell Edwin no, is he? Or: Charles tried to isolate himself away from Edwin, Edwin couldn't let that stand. The boys being teenagers and fooling around fencing.

Based on my fencing history so I actually come with knowledge about that! I kinda took advantage of that for creating this fic.

I hope you'll like it! I really enjoyed writing it. Charles is my favourite out of them but damn fencer Edwin is ruining my brain.

niko explaining to kermit that the reason there are so many songs about rainbows is gay people, and that she has some very explicit manga about it, and she can probably find some with frogs if he would like

animal and charles playing in a band together. what does charles play? absolutely nothing, but he's trying EVERYTHING. edwin keeps trying to explain that instruments take years to master, but animal is encouraging charles to just fuck around and hope for the best

niko is styling fozzie bear's hair, despite it being far too short to do anything with. fozzie is too nice to do anything. every scene he is in, he looks totally different

jenny doesn't know the muppets are there. she thinks rizzo the rat is just a rat, and she thinks she has a rat infestation. she spends the entire episode trying (and failing) to exterminate him

what is the plot? there absolutely is none. edwin keeps trying to figure out why the muppets are there. we never find out. every episode for the rest of the season edwin asks why that happened and everyone else treats it like a perfectly normal occurance

Everyone's Alive College/University 5+1 things fic featuring Charles bringing Edwin coffee and slowburn payneland. Also Family/Wedding Drama involving Everyone Thinks Their Dating so acute is verges on Fake Dating. This author is seriously fantastic, everything they write is gold.

You should also check out Kissing Lessons, which is a high school AU that does what it says on the tin while also giving non-binary Monty and polyamory.

Monty gets a job working at Tragic Mick's. This one's not actually payneland, being gen and Monty-centric. I know, gasp. It's a fantastic and very sweet exploration of Monty discovering his sense of self post canon and works as a great metaphor for recovery from toxic family/relationships. Also, the ex-animal solidarity and bonding with Mick is lovely.

The Sandman crossover featuring Edwin and Hob being kidnapped and tortured together. Their friendship is really wholesome with eventual Father Figure and Found Family Feels for the whole agency and background Dreamling.

Payneland Right Person Wrong Time AU in which neither of them die but they still meet and become friends. The May/December friendship is sweet but tragic, with a bittersweet ending. Superb.

Case fic with de-aged Charles! Baby Charles is precious but be prepared for discussions of childhood trauma/abuse.

The same author has also written I'm So Aces at Babysitting, which is a really cute two-chaptered AU featuring Charles and Edwin babysitting the kid versions of each other, with bonus Crystal and Niko doing the same. It's very wholesome and the author writes little kids really well.

In which Charles curses himself with a Sleeping Beauty enchantment in order to confirm his feelings for Edwin and Crystal is the real MVP. I love this one because the boys are both SO stupid but in very different in-character ways.

I also recommend Promised, in which they kind of play the Green card angle to keep Edwin out of Hell? Which honestly needs to be more of a trope. And Tight Quarters, starring the boys trapped in a magic circle, leading to Forced Proximity induced Feelings Realization (in more ways than one! 😉).

Something I Can Turn To by DontOffendTheBees

I love some domestic fluff, in this case as an Everyone's Alive/Childhood Friends AU in which the boys are poor but happy living together. I liked how they both survive their respective traumas, but Reality Ensues.

I also recommend Lived My Whole Life Before the First Light for a lovely but melancholy Soulmate AU that goes for the "seeing colours" trope for extra wistful angst.

Dining at the Ritz by TerresDeBrume

Meeting the Parents fic in which Edwin's parents are awful and Charles is Not Having It. This has Everyone Thinks They're Dating and autistic Edwin stimming representation, plus discussions of racism, classism and ableism. The fic is also part of a great Modern AU series in which the boys attended St Hilarion's at the same time and Charles saved Edwin from a non-supernatural but still almost deadly prank. Highly recommended!

The Case of the Couples Retreat by juliasfanart

Listen, I can't get enough of undercover fake dating/relationships at a couples retreat, OK? Some minor angst but overall very cute and fluffy.

The agency is hired to solve the mystery of Charles' death and bring his killers to justice. I'm genuinely obsessed with this series; I love its OCs and Charles having an exboyfriend gives Edwin a fun crisis. Plus haunting Charles' killers is very satisfying and cathartic. Just imagine they're Netflix execs, y'all.

*Not actually quick, as it turns out. 😅

charles never finished orpheus and eurydice, a three page myth. does that not encompass the whole of his character? he strives for distraction after distraction, things to entertain, things to stimulate. the myth was boring so instead he learned kickboxing. he needed to move and you can't move while you read. he never finished the myth. he never finished the story so he chose his own ending. he decided it would be happy because charles is a romantic, and who cares if virtually all greek myths end in tragedy? charles would defy fate a thousand times over for edwin. but they have to keep moving. they can't wait on the stairs, charles knows that, edwin knows that, they all know that. they have to keep going. charles never finished the myth and edwin did and if they don't keep going their story will end too. charles never finished the myth so he was not resigned to the ending and so their story did not end. edwin did finish the myth and he chose to have hope anyway so their story did not end. your story does not have a set ending your story is not over. their story is not over because i did not finish the myth

but there's also the lighthouse episode. angie's light as a lure for people whose hearts ache for love from someone who is distant from them. a guide to a cruel death.

the lighthouse itself casting occasional flashes over the group as charles beats the night nurse into the ocean. echoing the lights going on and off in the devlin house, bright when the horror is at its worst and dark when all is quiet

the lanterns in the forest episode, passed back and forth between them, to see the way apart from each other and back again. the cat king's chandelier, spotlighting him in the darkness, another lure.

Introducing my 381k Payneland fic!

Some of you may have seen my post yesterday about how I wasn't sure on how I should post this monstrosity of a fic but the vast majority of you requested that I post it in chapters! So here's all the information you need to know about it.

When and how will it be posted?

The first chapter will be posted on the 9th of September. There will be 30 chapters in total all stretching out to be between 10-15k each. By this schedule the fic should roughly finish up April of next year! However the full thing is written so I may feel generous and occasionally post twice a week however I'd like to build a community! So I'll be creating a tag for you guys to follow over here where I'll post snippets, extended scenes and scrapped scenes. When the fic ends I also have alternative endings written out that you guys might like! Depending on the popularity of this fic I might end up even creating a discord server, I'm not particularly sure how this fic will do but I'm a huge fan of connecting with my readers, more about a discord server below.

Is the fic titled yet? What's it about?

Yes it is! The fic will be called 'My Godforsaken Loverboy' and it's an AU of Edwin and Charles being dorm mates at St. Hilarions spanning five years. It's very much a slow burn that may drive you insane but I promise I spent forever going through Tumblr hunting down popular head canons and dynamic wishes that seemed popular to throw in this fic so hopefully there's something for everyone! A proper summary will be released soon!

Is this based off the Netflix Series?

Here's where I may lose some people. While it's definitely got plenty of aspects from the Netflix shows (Mostly character wise) I planned the entire fic around the comics and Doom Patrol's season three episode 'Dead Patrol' so the dynamics may be different to what you'll be expecting if you've only watched the Netflix show! I apologise if this throws some people off but I adore them in Doom Patrol dearly.

Now a question for you guys, do we want a discord server?

I'd love a discord server centred around Dead Boy Detectives in general! Where we could share head cannons, fanart, fic recs, ect in more of a discussion way instead of screaming into a void. So here's my idea, I'm more than happy to create an overall Dead Boy Detectives server however it'd just have a channel or two dedicated purely to this fic but I'd have plenty of other channels for different fics as well! I've been on servers like this before and really enjoyed them. Send me a message if you like this idea so I don't lose track of you and if I get enough people I'll make it!
