Okay, I believe Wilardo makes a better bottom. Idk why but i just do.

With regards to the “do agender people fall under the A, too? are agender people nonbinary?” dischorse that I occasionally see floating around—

As an agender person, I feel that I am included in the nonbinary community because I define nonbinary as meaning “any identity where one does not ID as 100% solely male or female 100% of the time” and agender falls under that definition. Beyond that, I also want to be in the nonbinary community because there are more people here which means there’s more community to be had and there are a lot of commonalities between my experience in being agender and the experiences of other nonbinary people.

That said, though, I also feel that the experience of not having a gender at all is different from the experience of having a gender (albeit not a binary one) and that those distinctions are absolutely worth noting and talking about and worth having an agender community separate from the nonbinary community for and worth having agender-specific activism for, too.

(tho note that I feel that all labels have/should have sub-communities even if we’re all part of a larger umbrella term community: we have the LGBTQIA+ community and within that the lesbian community, gay community, bi community, etc etc etc - similarly within the nonbinary community we have smaller communities for individual identities, agender included and within these specific communities we also have issues specific to those communities that may/may not also affect other, but not all, communities)

So, do agender people fall under the A? Yes, if they want to.

And do agender people count as nonbinary? Yes, if they want to.

It’s not an either/or question. The answer is going to be “yes I want to be included in the A and yes I’m nonbinary” for some and “yes I want to be included in the A and no I’m not nonbinary” or “no I do not want to be  included in the A and yes I’m nonbinary” for others – some agender people might even say no to both.

The thing to do, then, is allow individual agender people to identify (and organize) how they personally want and if you’re not agender yourself then realize that this is an intracommunity issue and you don’t get to tell us how we’re supposed to feel about it or how we’re allowed to identify – and that if you are agender then how you feel isn’t necessarily going to be how other agender people feel and that’s okay. That literally takes nothing from you or harms you in any way.
