I truly don't like how people talk about Kinkajou on the internet like her not being irreparably damaged by her trauma forever makes her "uninteresting" or a badly written character. Being cheery and optimistic in the face of strife, despite clearly holding a self-awareness about her previous trauma as shown in how she thinks during Moon Rising, is what MAKES her interesting. It was also not a repeated trauma she endured throughout most of her childhood, it was a singular, absolutely terrible event that happened to her but which she had a support system coming out of in the form of Glory. I am not trying to diminish Kinkajou's trauma but the fact that she had anyone to support her through the worst events of her life makes it a ton more logical that her personality would be less effected by it than the rest of her winglet, who all experienced traumas like abuse or neglect that was on-going and largely for the ENTIRETY of their lives up to the point of attending Jade Mountain. I think sometimes people forget that not seeing a POV of a character does not immediately erase the internal logic that their character functions by. It's like when people claim Clay gets flanderized post Book 1-He doesn't, nothing about his writing changes, your perspective of him is just inherently limited because you are reading about what Other Characters Think of Him. It's the strongest element of Tui's characterization in her POVs but I think it leads to a lot of misjudgement about characters books outside of their own. Even though we aren't getting a Kinkajou book, I'd love one just so I could stop feeling crazy about already thinking she's a fully three-dimensional character while everyone else seems to think she's flat as a piece of cardboard.

Nightwings and Icewings are both white for a few reasons

Someone pointed out how night wings act is like a stereo typical over privileged white dude, which I wanna say is wrong but I really cant

And icewings being white cause well, just kinda makes sense

Sandwings I figure would be like a brown or something since a lot of sun requires that type of skin.

I saw a human drawing of kinkajou as black and honestly I really vibe with that so I thought, how about rain wings have the most variety in their skin colors? Never fully white cause of what but they definitely mixed.

Sky wings are basically like a jack in the box. No idea what the hell you gonna get

Mudwings are 90% of the time a 50/50 mix of both skin colors

Seawings white as hell because just like a dude said on twitter after the live action little mermaid reveal,she spends so much time underwater she'd be translucent.

Basically every tribe is black because of the climate but Hivewings are closest to white because of the most time spent indoors, Leafwings are closest to black because they spend time in a rainforest similar to the amazon. I garentee you some dude is gonna be calling me racist in the replies or reblog for no fucking reason. Don't be that guy.

I hc that Coral brainwashed Moray into adoring her. Shark is looking all smug because his daughter can take the throne then Coral takes Moray under her wing. Teaches her that Coral created the tribe or smth and after a few years Moray is Coral's number one fan and never going to challenge Coral for the throne. I don't think Shark would be a good dad so imagine Coral coming and being all nice after years of dealing with that. Or maybe she's just scared and sucking up

Tsunami's and Anemone's perspective she is just in love with Coral but maybe she has alternate motives. Maybe she is acting and planning to take the throne after Coral throws the idea of her being a threat out. One day when Coral is all old and Anemone and Auklet are planning to challenge she just breaks the act and snaps an elderly Coral's neck. She just fascinates me lol.

When people say that it was out of character for Ruby to capture Hailstorm in the prologue I disagree. She was a loyal member of the Skywing army and an enemy prince flew over the border so she took him prisoner. What's wrong with that? Was she really supposed to be nice about it. Just because she is presented as a sympathetic character in most books doesn't mean she's going to be all nice to dragons of an enemy tribe during a war. She literally just did her job, Hailstorm was her enemy at the time

I don't like when people use the term "mate" when referring to the dragon's romantic relationships. I'm not trying to tell people what to do this is just my personal opinion. But the term mate in this context is just off putting for me, I never really thought of the dragons like animals the same way the dragons in the series don't think of themselves as animals. I see a fic writer go "Oh Turtle, I need to know what happened to my mate Qibli". And I just go ew, no they don't talk like that.
