I don't like when people use the term "mate" when referring to the dragon's romantic relationships. I'm not trying to tell people what to do this is just my personal opinion. But the term mate in this context is just off putting for me, I never really thought of the dragons like animals the same way the dragons in the series don't think of themselves as animals. I see a fic writer go "Oh Turtle, I need to know what happened to my mate Qibli". And I just go ew, no they don't talk like that.

Mudwings are 90% of the time a 50/50 mix of both skin colors

Basically every tribe is black because of the climate but Hivewings are closest to white because of the most time spent indoors, Leafwings are closest to black because they spend time in a rainforest similar to the amazon.
