Raiden sat underneath a large cherry blossom tree, occasionally brushing away the flower petals that fell onto his book, and ran his fingers through Tomas’s silver hair. The assassin had laid his head onto Raiden’s lap earlier, essentially trapping him to the spot. Not that Raiden wanted to be anywhere else. It was one of those rare days where neither of them had duties to oversee. With Raiden being Earthrealm’s champion and Tomas being the 2nd in command of the new Shirai Ryu, the two of them rarely had time for themselves. But, perhaps the waiting was worth it. Tomas had brought a picnic basket full of both of their favorite foods, there was a slight breeze that kept the heat away from the both of them, and neither Kuai Liang nor Kung Lao were bothering them. They had fed each other pastries, caught up on the many different things that Liu Kang or Kuai Liang sent their way, and they were both now relaxing under the shade of the tree.

Raiden removed his hand from Tomas’s hair and licked his thumb to turn the page of his book. It was some old novel that Liu Kang had recommended, saying that he would enjoy the book, and Liu Kang was correct. But, Raiden figured with Liu Kang creating everything, he would know exactly Raiden’s taste in books. The champion looked down once again to admire his boyfriend. Tomas always looked so beautiful, even with his eyes closed, and the champion wished that the two of them had more time for each other. Tucking Tomas’s growing hair behind his ear, Raiden went back to his book, letting the words bring his mind back to a peaceful lull.

After a few minutes, the Earthrealm Champion looked up from his book when he felt Tomas rise up from his position and turn over to trap Raiden’s legs underneath his stomach. There was a small pout on the Czech man’s lips, and Raiden wanted nothing more than to lean in and kiss the man senseless. However, he refrained from doing so when he saw the questioning look in Tomas’s eyes.

“Would you still love me?” His boyfriend asked.

Raiden blinked in surprise, a bemused expression falling onto his face. He struggled not to laugh for a moment, but got his composure enough together to ask, “...if what?” Tomas threw himself onto Raiden’s chest dramatically, and Raiden let go of the book to hold his distressed boyfriend in his arms.

“No! That was the question!” Tomas whined, jutting his lip out even further in an attempt to look as pouty and adorable as possible. Raiden felt his heart stutter for a second.

“What prompted the question, love?” Raiden asked, rubbing the back of Tomas’s back as the man buried his face into Raiden’s chest. The silver-haired man muttered something incomprehensible into the white fabric of Raiden’s robe, and Raiden quirked his eyebrow up.

“What was that?”

“I just saw something online, and you were supposed to say yes. Something about you always loving me or whatever” Tomas lifted his head, a red flush on his cheeks, but he kept his gaze averted from Raiden’s eyes. Raiden smiled and leaned down to press a kiss to Tomas’s forehead.

“Don’t be silly. Of course I would still love you. No matter what.” The Earthrealm Champion answered, bringing the assassin up to straddle his hips so that they could properly kiss. Tomas melted into the touch and brought up his hand to cradle the nape of Raiden’s neck as their lips moved against each other. A tender feeling arose, one that curled low in Raiden’s stomach and filled him with a warmth one would feel after settling next to a fire after a long day of working. After a few seconds, Tomas pulled away from Raiden’s embrace, and Raiden simply let his hands rest on Tomas’s hips as the assassin sat in his lap.

“Would you like to finish this book with me?” Raiden removed his hand and picked up the book by his side, and Tomas nodded. The silver-haired man turned around, his back comfortably flush against the champion’s chest, and Raiden continued from where he had left off. Soon enough, the raven-haired man noticed that Tomas had drifted off to sleep again, and Raiden smiled. Pressing a soft kiss to his boyfriend’s temple, Raiden continued to read. He wouldn’t trade this for the world.
