If your dialog feels flat, rewrite the scene pretending the characters cannot at any cost say exactly what they mean. No one says “I’m mad” but they can say it in 100 other ways.

Wrote a chapter but you dislike it? Rewrite it again from memory. That way you’re only remembering the main parts and can fill in extra details. My teacher who was a playwright literally writes every single script twice because of this.

Don’t overuse metaphors, or they lose their potency. Limit yourself.

Before you write your novel, write a page of anything from your characters POV so you can get their voice right. Do this for every main character introduced.

God, thinking about how Venka possibly WASN’T the leak, or maybe she was, but she still loved Rin and wanted to protect her from that crossbow bolt anyway despite divided loyalties. I think she might actually have been on Nezha’s side because I was incredibly suspicious of Xuzhou and I swore they were going to get their asses fucking handed to them on a silver Yin family platter. I’d been suspicious of her for sure! But the whole point is we won’t ever truly know because she died trying to protect Rin. Was she loyal? Was she disloyal but still loved Rin? What did loyalty mean to Sring Venka? Was she being loyal in her own way, in not wanting Rin to have victory because she knew she’d lose it? Was she trying to protect her all along like she did in her last moments?

Hello, my sweet fanfiction readers. It's time for a little check-in again. Don't worry. I promise this is a safe place to land, pause with me, and just relax for a second before you keep scrolling.

Have you drank water today? Drop your shoulders and remove your tongue from the roof of your mouth. Take a deep breath. Thank you sweet one, I'm proud of you.

Here's a motivating thought for you before you keep scrolling. Your least favorite character, the one that makes you spit nails and want to scream. Who makes your blood boil, who hurt your comfort character, they think you can't do this. They think you're not enough that you can't achieve anything. Prove. Them. Wrong. Let that motivate you, that this garbage horrid character thinks you can't, say fuck you to them and show that you can.

You're comfort character believes you can do it and so do I. You are worth more then you can ever know, you are loved, you are important and you are enough. I'll let you get back to your scrolling and hope one day you'll see yourself the way your comfort character and I do.
