you don't even understand the first 15 pages tore me up SO BAD
in shock hearing people say that babel only takes a turn and becomes heart-wrenching at the end because that experience is so incomprehensible to my chinese diaspora ass that felt like their heart was being torn from their chest in the very first chapter likeeeee babel is underscored by such immense amounts of tragedy and loss and horror around colonialism and imperialism from the very beginning it's so crazy that white people can just read the first half of babel and not feel like every bone in their body was being dissolved in acid by the centuries of unspoken grief written in robin's experience SORRYYYYYYYY. average poc reading babel vs average white person reading babel truly LMFAOOOO
hi, everyone! i'm rereading poppy war (i know, crazy) and i still can't picture out how sinegard academy looks like, including its grounds and stuff (as in the whole campus). can someone drop a fanart or at least a place that kind of looks like it. thank you huhu😭

rf kuang has this ability to write friendships in a way that is so relatable, so beautiful in the mundane, yet still so profound, heartwarming, and life changing
thinking about how venka’s last words were “rin get down!” and kitay’s last words were “you’re hurting me.” and rin’s last words were “fix this.”
Current status update:
FUCK FUCK FUCK WHERE DO I BEGIN
i've finish the burning god and i will never know happiness again.
the poppy war trilogy will have a funny little joke on one page and then a war crime on the next
*TPW Spoilers*
In The Poppy War Rin said “I don’t love you and I can kill anything.”
Then in The Burning God, Altan’s ghost asks “How many more chances are you going to let go?” and Rin responds with “At least one more.”
She is given multiple chances to kill Nezha, but each time she fails to because she just can’t bring herself to. She loves him, she hates him. It’s never a balance, one outweighs the other on different occasions.
let us never forget that Yin Nezha is canonically packing
RFK IS WRITING A TRIFECTA PREQUEL AND IS GOING TO BE PUBLISHED IN AUGUST MY GATEKEEPER IS COMING BACK TO ME
“They were monsters! They were not human!” “Have you ever considered, that that was exactly what they thought of us?”

I’ve just picked up yellowface and omfg I HATE June so much already and am quietly awaiting her downfall. As a white woman I am also really digesting this as a learning experience, and would also highly recommend yellowface to anyone wanting to tackle their unconscious/conscious biases and who want a work that tackles the issues mentioned by op! Definitely going to be finishing this book by the end of the week, so might even do a review like I used to!
just finished reading yellowface by rf kuang and ho-ly shit. that's how satire is done. i have so many thoughts. would absolutely recommend a read to anybody, but especially white people. if you're serious about unlearning anti-asian racism, you should read this book. if you're asian, esp east asian, and you want to see a thieving, racist bitch get her comeuppance (while examining the insidiousness of white womanhood, the patriarchal system that allows this brand of whiteness to proliferate unchecked, debating ownership/authorship in storytelling, and more), you should read this book. holy shit.
venka & rin <\3
