honestly I forgot I made this comic a while ago oops cleaned it up and decided to throw it in here anyway:D

comics as an art form make me insane. theyâre so difficult to do well. thereâs so many different ways to make sequential art work and most of them are deeply unintuitive. onomatopoeia that feels completely ridiculous to put down often reads seamlessly. panels on a page become a fractally nested image composition challenge thatâs only possible to lose because if you do a good job no one will notice. you have to direct the readersâ eyes on a specific path across the page but also account for the fact that they wonât follow it. comic time isnât linear. if the order of events isnât crystal clear the story becomes incomprehensible. sometimes you need to do this on purpose. all this for a medium almost universally considered less effective than animation and less respectable than plain text. even its own name doesnât take it seriously

Most of the Batkids lie to Batman.
Whatâs unique about Tim âI lie to Batmanâ Drake is that he lies *successfully* to Batman.
Damian just states blatant untruths and expects people to believe them. Dick puts on a good act, but it canât fool his family, even if they wonât call him out on it. Jasonâs emotions are too easy to read, even with his helmet on. Cass lies with her words, but never with her body. Duke lacks self-awareness of his insanity and thus doesnât try to hide any of it. Steph and Barbara donât even bother, because Batman has no authority over her whatsoever.
Tim, though? He was raised by boarding schools and nannies and practically incentivized to lie to adults. Heâs so earnest and well-meaning that everyone expects him to be a compulsive truth-teller, and he weaponizes it like the little gremlin he is. And when that isnât enough, he knows how to spin things just right that they donât quite sound like an untruth.
The way that exclusionists treat ace and aro people often reminds me of how the average person would treat me when I started being open as non-binary. Iâve said it once and Iâll say it a thousand times, we are not enemies. Our experiences do not oppose each other, they are intertwined. If youâre ace, if youâre aromantic, if youâre any variation thereupon; your home is here. You belong here, too. You are beautiful, and powerful; and you donât have to explain yourself to anyone.
