About halfway down the hall to the medbay is when Leonard was finally completely fed up with keeping the crooked posture required to support Y/N the way he had been. “Going up,” Leonard declared quickly before simply sweeping her up bridal style as though she didn’t weigh anything at all. Y/N squealed at the sudden action and instantly clasped her hands around his neck. “Why would you do that?” Y/N asked through giggles as she clung close to him. Though she asked the question, she certainly wasn’t complaining. “I was tired of leaning crooked and I figured you wouldn’t mind a break from trying to walk either,” Leonard commented with a small, almost secret, smile, as though it were really his pleasure. Despite his good nature about it Y/N still felt anxiety creep up on her about having bothered him. “I can walk,” She offered, but it fell upon deaf ears as Leonard was already set in what he was doing. “We’re almost there, it doesn't really matter now,” He assured. Leonard’s grip on the girl tightened ever so slightly at the thought of putting her down so soon. It doesn’t mean anything, it’s just your duty as a doctor to be sure she isn't hurt on your watch, he attempted to convince himself as Nurse Chapel put down the food and opened the door to his office. “Thank you, Nurse Chapel,” Leonard kindly dismissed her when she had finished bringing in their lunch. “Of course,” She nodded with a knowing smile as she left the office. “So,” Leonard began, hesitantly as he wasn’t actually sure what he thought he was about to say. “I agree wholeheartedly,” Y/N chuckled, in a light attempt to fill the seemingly dense silence. “You should really be more careful,” He said, as he really didn’t know what to say and that seemed, to him, a safe subject. “Well, I can’t exactly predict when people are going to just have left things on the floor,” She countered in good temperament. “I suppose that’s true,” Leonard forced a soft chuckle at the comment. Sensing that moment when he wasn’t really laughing, Y/N straightened up a bit in her seat, “We don’t have to talk if you don’t want to or if you have something better to do,” Y/N assured, trying to be sure Leonard knew her feelings wouldn’t be hurt by such a decision, though it wasn’t completely true and she didn’t know why. Sure Y/N always wanted people to like her, and when they didn’t she wanted to know why, but could usually let go of it with a fair amount of ease. But for some reason she felt the particular need to make Leonard like her, and couldn’t bear the idea that maybe he didn’t, even though he had never indicated anything of the sort. She had assured herself that it was just because she didn’t want to make the living situation weird, even as Leonard’s fingers brushed against her’s when he handed Y/N her smoothie. "Thanks," She nodded softly, keeping her eyes fixed on the drink. Y/N can feel his eyes burning into her as she brings the cup to her lips, she tries to think nothing of it. Much to her dismay, Y/N fails miserably in this task, the cool drink spilling down the front of her shirt. She gasps, "Oh my-" Y/N cuts herself off with a shiver as her teeth clench. Y/N craned her neck to see what there might be around to clean herself up with, much to her dismay she found nothing of the sort. “Here,” Leonard started as he rummaged through the middle drawer of his desk, “You could wear this,” Leonard said as he held out a blue medical uniform shirt. He tossed the shirt across the desk to her. “Erm,” Y/N trailed awkwardly as Bones stared down at his sandwich. He gave a reflexive twitch of a movement in response to the sound. “Hmm? Oh! Of course!” He realised why she sat so uncomfortably in her seat. Leonard quickly stood and walked to the door. “Just let me know when you’re ready,” He said before swinging the door shut behind him.

Took too long to get the motivation for such a short chapter, but hey, at least I’m back in action. 🤷‍♀️ Have fun kids!
