McCoy: "There's a thin line between being a genius and a complete idiot." McCoy: "Jim and Spock use that line as a jump rope."
I like that your hand fits in mine
Jim Kirk x reader
I think I managed to avoid any descriptions of the reader. Reader is in engineering. Written from readerâs POV. Anyone can be referred to as sweetheart, no changing my mind. Reader has enough hair to have fingers run through it. warnings â ď¸ : brief description of burns
Word count: 562

It had been a long day quite honestly. The engine core had overheated, accidentally skimming that thing caused awful burns when it was totally within regulation. Unfortunately nobody had told me that it was overheating, admittedly though the fact that the whole room was a couple of degrees warmer should have given it away.
I was half asleep and nursing a cup of coffee when my hand scraped up against the core. It took me a second to even realise anything was wrong. It was Scotty who finally shook me out of my daze âIf you hold yer hand there much longer you wonât have a hand!!â He warned. I looked down to see my hand red and blistering already. It hadnât hurt until just now when I looked at it, but damn did it hurt now. I vaguely registered that Scotty had ordered an ensign to take me to the medbay. McCoy had given me a rather stern look when he saw my burn and that I was still holding the hot coffee. It was the kind of look that generally had me turning the other direction, and I would have if it werenât for the fact that the ensign (who I still feel bad for not knowing the name of) had already given me over to McCoy for inspection. âI donât know why Kirk still lets you be an engineer. How many core related injuries is this now?â He asked raising a brow at me. âHell if I know, youâre the one with the medical logsâ I muttered through a yawn. McCoy fixed me up with the dermal regenerator, the skin was better, but I can still feel the heat pulsating underneath. âThanksâ I muttered to McCoy as I gently prodded at the newly regenerated skin. âPlease donât bug it too much, and come check in with me tomorrow. Just go back to your quarters or youâll probably hurt yourself worseâ McCoy droned, did I just get grounded? Forget my quarters, Jimâs bedding is warmer and itâs not like anyone can tell me not to. I headed up to Jimâs quarters and kicked off my shoes as soon as the door closed behind me. I wrapped myself up in his bedding and took a deep breath in, it was comforting to be surrounded by Jimâs smell even if he wasnât here right now. I could feel myself dozing off. âââââ I woke up to the sound of the door sliding open. I heard Jimâs footsteps coming near just before the bed dipped. âHey Sweetheart, whatâre you doing here? Not that Iâm not glad to see youâ Jim cooed softly as he ran his hand through my hair. âBurned my hand and Bones sent me to my quartersâ I murmured into the pillow. Jim chuckled âWell last checked these are my quartersâ He joked patting me on the side. âCan I see it?â Jim asked, referring to my hand. He held it in both of his own hands. He kissed my hand gently, âMind if I lay with you?â He requested as though it werenât his bed I was laying in. I softly nod my head and he slips into bed with me, still holding my hand and now reaching for my other. âI like that your hands fit in mineâ Jim whispered after kissing me gently on the cheek.
It might not be great, but hey progress, right?

TOS Leonard McCoy x fem!reader
â ď¸: reader dies in the end, reader is fem
word count: 903
âWhen I grow up, Iâll marry youâ she said it all the time when they were young. She and Leonard grew up next door to each other. They were the best of friends and from the start a little bit more too. It was the innocent kind of love, the kind where they shared everything and would do anything for each other. If Leonard got a cookie from his mother he would always ask for a second and run off with them both. His mother never had any doubt of where that second cookie was going. ââââââ Age 5 âHi Lenny!!â Y/N squealed as she saw Leonard running into her yard. âHi Y/N!! Look I brought you a cookie!!â Leonard shouted, waving the second cookie over his head as he ran. âReally?â Y/N asked breathily, she knew Leonard loved his cookies, these werenât just the store bought ones, these were the special ones that his mama only made once in a while. âYeah, mama just made âem, theyâre still warm!!!â He cheered, âoh I love you, youâre the best!â Y/N jumped around. âWait here!!â Y/N called as she was already running into her own house. âMom! Mom! Can I have two juices!??â Y/N bounded through the house. âWhatâs the second one for?â Her mother called from the kitchen, she knew of course but she still found it adorable. âLenny brought me a cookie!! I wanna bring him a juice!â Y/N explained rapidly as she watched her mother open the fridge and pull out two juice boxes. As soon as she handed Y/N the juices, she darted for the door like her life depended on it. âLenny, Iâve got juices!!â Y/N shouted in glee as she plopped down on the steps next to him. They traded one of each with each other and munched happily as the day came to a close. ââââ- Age 10 âHey Lenny!â Y/N called as they got off the bus from school. Leonard looked over and nodded to show that she had his attention. âMy mom said you can come over and watch a movie after dinner if itâs okay with your mama!â Y/N rushed in the same excited tone she generally kept, âOh, Iâll run in and ask right now, wait there Iâll be right backâ Leonard ordered. He ran in and dropped his school bag at the door, âHey mama, is it okay if after dinner I go over to Y/Nâs and watch a movie?â Leonard pried. âI donât see why not, just be back by eightâ his mother informed, âokay mama!â Leonard replied before running back out to tell Y/N the good news. âMy mama said itâs alright, long as Iâm back by eight!â He called as he hung out the door of his house, âAlright, see you then Lenny!â ââââ-
Age 15 âHey Len, you see the new girl yet?â Y/N asked as she chewed her gum at her desk. âNah, not yet. Why ya ask?â Leonard was quick reply from the desk next to her. âI dunno, I just hear a lot a people talkin bout her. Figured that if youâd seen her you might know what the fuss is aboutâ Y/N explained as she swung one leg loosely over her desk. âMaybe, but Iâm sure sheâs not all that, sheâs just new, new people are a big deal round here if you hadnât noticed. Besides sheâll be in here soon just like the rest of us, then you can see what the fuss is for yourselfâ Leonard remarked. âYeah, I guessâ Y/N acknowledged with a soft sigh. âDonât worry bout it, darlin Iâm sure youâll still be the prettiest girl aroundâ Leonard assured her. âFlattererâ Y/N muttered to herself, âI heard thatâ Leonard lamented âGoodâ Y/N mocked. ââââ- Age 16 Y/N and Leonard walked down the street to a cafe. âDid you catch what the math homework wasâ Leonard questioned, âNot even a little, Iâm pretty sure I was asleepâ Y/N admitted. âThat explains the snoringâ Leonard noted âI do not snore!â Y/N contested. âI know, just messing with yaâ Leonard conceded. âCross hereâ Y/N informed, looking back at Leonard as she crossed. âWait!â Leonard reached for her, but he wasnât quick enough and neither was the driver who stomped on his breaks just a little too late. Leonard rushed to her as the man got out of his car. âCall 911!â He urged the stranger as he held Y/N. âHang in there, remember you said you would marry me. You gotta live long enough for us to have the best weddingâ Leonard pleaded softly as he held Y/N, who fought to keep her eyes open. âJust know that I would have said I doâ Y/N let out in a brittle voice. âYouâll make it, you can tell me you do laterâ Leonard protested the idea that she wouldnât be there to tell him that herself. âLove ya Lenâ Y/N sighed softly and closed her eyes. She had stopped, stopped talking, stopped breathing, stopped. The sirens wailed around him, but it didnât matter, just like Leonard and the driver, they were too late too. Everything around him was a flurry but all he could think was that she loved him. She really loved him, not just the cutesy kind after he would give her a cookie when they were five, but she really loved him and he never got to say it back.

I canât believe I chose to traumatise 16 year old Bones. đIâm so sorryđ

Does anyone know why we put word counts on our works? Or like does someone have a specific reason for it? I just do it because I picked up on it in the pattern of other peopleâs work
