Ive Seen People Say That Finnick Saw Annie In Peeta After The Hijacking, And Thats Part Of The Reason
I’ve seen people say that Finnick saw Annie in Peeta after the hijacking, and that’s part of the reason why he helped him so much. And I’m sure that’s true (in fact, practically confirmed by the text), but I also think Finnick saw a lot of himself in Peeta.
Peeta was as wounded at that time as Finnick was when Annie was in the Capitol - or perhaps it was more akin to Finnick just after his games: lost, confused, unsure of what war real. Just making knots over and over again.
Because Finnick has seen firsthand what the Capitol does to people. And it makes sense that he looks at Peeta and sees the cruelty of the Capitol, in which every wrong move contributes to the death of a loved one. I wonder how bad it must have been for Finnick if he felt quite so lost as someone whose memories had been literally altered.

this came up because of a TikTok but for the love of god, Katniss didn’t hate her mother for being “emotionless” after her dad died, she was hurt and angry because her mother neglected her. she had to hide from Panem’s whack ass CPS because she knew they’d take her away. if Katniss hadn’t bucked up and started hunting and foraging, she. would. have. died. because. of. child. abuse. Katniss is a victim of child abuse. just because her mother never hit her doesn’t mean she wasn’t abused as a child. as much as we talk about Peeta’s child abuse, as much as we talk about how unsafe the Mellark household was, based on what is explicitly stated in the text, Katniss’s house was more unsafe. Katniss is allowed to be upset about that, to carry that pain, especially considering her mother abandoned her once again after Prim died. maybe they make up later on, maybe it’s always strained, but either way, it’s her decision, and she does not owe her mother anything. I don’t mind reading different interpretations of what might happen post canon, but let’s all remember that Mrs. Everdeen, even though she was going through severe mental illness, severely neglected her children, and would have let them die.
People talk about District 12’s meadow being a graveyard after the war, but if you think about it, the entire district is a graveyard.
Many of my ancestors do not have graves because they died in coal mining accidents and no one bothered to take their bodies out because it was too expensive. My dad can even point out where they are. There are warehouses built on top of essentially a graveyard, but that apparently doesn’t matter because they didn’t have enough money to be important.
Think about how many people are underneath District 12 because they were never gotten out of the mines. It was a district built on top of death from well before the war.
