Hey, Here Are Some Tips Ive Picked Up While Feeding Myself As A College Student! Please Add On If You
hey, here are some tips i’ve picked up while feeding myself as a college student! please add on if you can!
disclaimer: we have apartment style dorms, so i have access to a kitchen
-if you have an asian supermarket near you, check it out! spices & produce are often cheaper there
-they also sometimes sell bags of bones for a few dollars that i make broth out of & then use as a base for other stuff.
-honestly if you have a dining hall just steal things from there. fruit, raisins, tea bags, ketchup/mustard packets, whatever. no one really cares that much
-if you like to make smoothies or smth go with frozen and not fresh fruit. it’s cheaper and doesn’t make a difference taste wise. make sure to check the packaging if you’re diabetic though, they often have a lot of sugar added
-if you do buy fresh fruit, never get the pre-cubed kind, it costs way more for less
-a bag of rice is a lot cheaper than ramen in terms of volume and will last you a lot longer. i eat a lot of rice + beans
-you can save vegetable peelings + scraps in a freezer bag and use them to make vegetable stock
-cucumber + trader joes everything bagel seasoning
-eggs. cheap. versatile. here’s a site dedicated just to egg recipes
-if you have a freezer, frozen grapes fuck
-don’t turn down free food!! if you’re at an event or smth where they offer snacks grab some and save them for later if you don’t want them at the moment
-i honestly never eat out but if you do here are some order coupons
-a graph of when fruits are in season to help you save money
-if you have the time, making your own bread is cheaper than buying it and not that hard tbh. as a fun bonus if your heating sucks like mine does you can sit in front of the oven while it bakes for warmth
-check the clearence section of grocery store bakeries! i got an entire loaf of whole grain bread for 99 cents yesterday
-if something kinda sucks but isn’t going to make you sick and you don’t want to waste food just throw a little hot sauce on that bad boy
-if there’s one grocery store you shop at a bunch, take the five minutes to sign up for whatever card they offer, it adds up
-if you eat with a really tiny spoon you can trick yourself into thinking you have more food sometimes. same with using a smaller plate
-rolled oats are the new love of my life, they’re cheaper than microwave pre flavored oatmeal, taste better, & you can do a lot more with them

Making & using a lace brush in CSP
saw this tweet on twitter,
https://twitter.com/ClipStudioTips/status/1216735942658199554
which actually goes over using file objects to make repeating textures, which is the same method I used to make my lace brush shapes! I elaborated on the process on twitter, and I’m just crossposting this here.
So the first thing is to make a new file object as explained in the tweet, and then if you make use of CSP’s symmetry rulers you can make some complex repeating patterns like this!
![image](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fd009f1474ea3b56140bf1babcb95cdc/137247b3a2cf2f28-4c/s500x750/199eb50c19c5c4d095828f904f478a23ebdccb95.png)
The flowers were all done using a 6 line symmetry ruler, and the part at the bottom used a 2 line ruler.
![image](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3e3e8b025f40362ee28d4d9474ccdb81/137247b3a2cf2f28-23/s250x400/bd73469c331a16b4c8f426b0cc309bd9074c209c.png)
& when you set the file object to tiling, you can set what directions it tiles in, too!
Once you’re all done drawing your pattern, you want to make it a brush tip. You need to set this up correctly! CSP’s brush tip engine works as black = primary colour, white = secondary colour,
so to ensure that the brush changes colour as expected: make sure you’re working on a transparent background, and convert your layer to greyscale before you save it as a brush tip material!
![image](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f85b42e660b0d1dd16accec84fb3e28f/137247b3a2cf2f28-ea/s500x750/a1d167108e435dde1f81ece49bce06e4ae7a098c.png)
This step is important, if you don’t set the layer to greyscale, it will not change colour, even if it’s in black & white.
![image](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ff479ef70419ad28d6a77f34d3c91646/137247b3a2cf2f28-16/s500x750/240ede9a893dbbdc831c09ba0c81c7f8cd87234e.png)
Anyway with that done you can make it into a brush tip shape by going to edit > register material > image… Here are the settings you’d want for a lace brush! Make sure to tag it so you can find it later.
Once that’s saved you can make it into a brush,
![image](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6334f2d1512ddbd34c9df44e5a1d5a52/137247b3a2cf2f28-13/s500x750/cc8a76edebb35a1f134c40837338c42594aedc34.png)
![image](https://64.media.tumblr.com/53016a59613e102b4eaf6beb924d8aa5/137247b3a2cf2f28-87/s500x750/000f4b071adf09ee47265b0c948962bac4fa695b.png)
go to brush tip and change the material to your new lace tip
go to stroke, and enable ribbon
if it’s repeating in the wrong direction, go back to brush tip and change the angle to either 90 or 270 (depends which way up you want it)
And you’re done! But as for actually using it, actually prefer to have my lace brushes using the figure line tool, and to make a vector layer for them!
![Making & Using A Lace Brush In CSP](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e6d36cc15ed4b1ff1c09c2f63397e7e1/137247b3a2cf2f28-3c/s500x750/fe35145d8f359ea1dbb8185faec72a3543a1599d.gif)
That way you can adjust the line as you need to create more realistic deformation. This works fine with the brush tool too, but drawing a line with the brush tool will create a lot of anchor points so it’s a little trickier to work with.
Anyway! Here’s an example of me using this method
