I’m crying because when my dad was eighteen he was going to join the airforce and then the night before he had a dream that Jesus slapped him in the face with a gigantic fish and asked him what he was doing and he woke up and thought, “Jesus is right what am I doing?” And that’s why my dad did not join the military.

His trauma likely centers around his experiences in the Marines, where he witnessed and endured violence and loss. Bro got PTSD.

Deepest fear is the fear of vulnerability—of letting someone in only to be abandoned or betrayed. Growing up in an environment where love was conditional and affection rare, Alex learned to rely only on himself in general. This is what makes him maintain distance from others, even as he yearns for connection.

26. Do they want to be remembered when they're gone? What would they like to be remembered as?

I think he probably has mixed feelings about being remembered. He might hope to be remembered as a man who, though distant, was deeply principled and reliable.
