Heads up Watchlings, Chapters 2 & 3 of ‘The Burning of Mr Spider’ are out!
Chapter 2 has been out for a bit, and is told from the perspective of Riku and the adults.
Chapter 3, released today, flip flops between both, and grants us a look into little Jon’s mind as he is told about Leitners, the Fears and the dangers of the supernatural... plus his feelings on some mild campfire work he gets to help with :3
Feel free to read and give thoughts, and thank you for nearly 100 hits on this! Seeing people love the fic enough to have it seen 100 times is all I really need to boost my esteem about this. Maybe I might draw young Jon eventually, who knows :D
Anyway, enjoy the read and thanks for tuning in ^^
--------
Summary:
In most other universes, Mr Spider succeeds in Marking Jonathan "Jon" Sims with the power of The Web at the tender age of 8 years old.
This action would begin a spiral of circumstances that, in most cases, leads the young boy to the Magnus Institute, where one manipulative piece of work twists him into nothing more than a cosmic lynchpin for an apocalyptic ritual that may or may not come to pass.
But in this timeline, a Desolation-Huntresses, a Private Eye and an End-Beholding Sectioned Officer get in the way, burning Mr Spider, his book and his domain before the young boys' eyes.
Ever since, Jonathan Sims has done everything he can to repay the favour, training under the Desolation-Huntress, burning any Leitner he finds, and fighting off the wrath of the supernatural. He has friends to help him with his goals, and all in all, life is... manageable.
Yet on quiet nights, a question tends to resurface... one no one seems to have an answer to.
What did Mr Spider mean when it called him Little Archive? -------------------- AKA; A retrospective on the life of Leitner Hunter Jonathan "Jon" Sims, beginning from the burning of Mr Spider.

Eye Lady TMA Takes (Part 2/?)
We needed more Spiral Avatars related to real estate this shit is maddening as hell (finding rentals feels like an uphill fight with the bloody rental crisis)
I cannot elaborate my braincells have been annihilated by binging real estate website scrolling.
Also I'm making Sarah Carpenter a Vast Avatar in my AO3 Fics AU because of that Leitner okay bye-
Spy Kids 4 was Based as Hell
Nobody stop me I'm going on a Spy Kids 4 rant.

Okay so the movie is hot trash in most of its senses but the bit where it shines has to be the 'villain'.
'Danger' literally goofed himself into being FROZEN IN TIME for DECADES because someone wasn't watching him. Great, right? Love OSS bs. But then his dad spends the rest of his natural life trying to break 'Danger' out of the time freeze, literally working himself to death in an attempt to do it.
'Danger' is conscious for all of it. 'Danger' - trapped in the mind of a child - has to watch his father give the rest of his life towards freeing him and fail. 'Danger' is released a decade or so later and his father is dead. Everyone he has ever known is dead. Or old as hell.
So he works for decades in return to get his life together and become head of the OSS. He finds a way to go back to his father and give his father closure and he jumps on it. He tries over and over and over and over to change his fate, to make things work, to reverse it, and it fails.
Then he's told to just enjoy what time he had left.
'Danger' goes back one more time. He sees his father, and he spends the rest of his father's life with him, making amends and everything else. He doesn't try to prolong anything, he doesn't try to break any fates. 'Danger' spends the time they have left, enjoys their shared time, and comes back aged, but content.
He won.
The 'villain' won.
It is deserved.
He undoubtedly goes to jail afterwards, as does all his clones. But 'Danger' got that closure, and no doubt spent the rest of his time just thankful for the chance to be there when his father passed.
He won.
--------------
'Danger' D'amo is not a villain to me. 'Danger' is a tragic character fighting against destiny to try and fix the past, or delay his fate, only to realize that the way to 'fix' the past is to just... let it be. Stay with his father. Make sure his father knows the sacrifices were worth it, that 'Danger' grew up into just as much of a genius as his father. That everything he did was so his father could rest easy.
Every time I hear Spy Kids 4 slander, I honestly wonder if people have ever thought about the tragedy of 'Danger' and his entire life. If people looked past the terrible jokes and gags to see the emotional core at the centre of the movie. How both the heroes and the 'villains' learnt a simple lesson.
Enjoy the time you have.
It's a beautiful core to a movie with severe jagged edges. The geode rock from Barbie's Princess and the Pauper if you will. Hard and boring on the outside, beautiful and rich within.
Also the Ricky Gervais dog was not that horrible y'all just over-exaggerating frfr.
G A H
Firstly no shade to the people I'm about to whinge about
Secondly OH MY GOD WHY ARE THERE SO MANY KIDS NEARBY ITS SO LOUD 😭😭😭 I can't focus on jack shit without a kid randomly screeching like a banshee. We can't even access OUR COLLEGE'S DINING ROOM because of this like omg.
I think I'm just gonna go to the shops. Anywhere but here rn lmao
Edit: Before anyone asks no I can't complain to our college principal because it's not in her jurisdiction to do anything. We're a college with a sponsor-of-sorts and that sponsor can do anything they want even if it inconvenient the people who pay to live there per week.
Edit²: Removed some hyperspecificity.
