Apparently, my waters breaking doesn’t mean I’m having the baby anytime in the immediate future. The nurse has told me to try and keep calm and prepare, so Tommy and I are sat in the drawing room. The nurse keeps checking on me every half an hour or so, but my contractions are too far apart and “not nearly strong enough” to worry about anything happening soon. So she claims.

“John says this happened with Martha,” Tommy says as I’m knelt on the sofa with my head resting on his shoulder, trying to breathe through another ‘not nearly strong enough’ contraction. “He said jumping up and down helps speed things along.”
