It's cheesy to say but I wrote something from the heart. I want to say it was cathartic to get some of the things I've been thinking out of my head, but it honestly made me feel worse. Oh well. At least characters in fiction can get the catharsis and support they need.
I messaged my wonderful and very cool beta reader about it and I feel kinda bad because like, I know this is heavier shit than I've been writing. Honestly complete tonal whiplash. I basically prefaced it by saying like "this shit is heavy and a complete bummer to read so no hard feelings if you don't wanna subject yourself to that" but still...
It's like being a taste tester for someone and all they've been sending you is cakes and then, completely out of left field, they send you like, haggis or something. Awful analogy but I sleepy.
Anyway. I'll give it a little bit and then post it. I want to make sure I'm representing the subject matter properly and getting all my thoughts out, but also I want to make something that I feel is real and true to my experiences. Ya know? Not as a self insert or a character shoehorned as a proxy for myself, but like...I dunno. I'm rambling. Bah.

Beneath Their Masks is continuing on schedule (somewhat), but don't be surprised if I do some other stuff in the meantime. Just haven't been in a really fluff-y mood this week. Sorry.

Here's chapter 4! Rainy Days. I could go for some rain right about now...
“Maybe that’s why we go together so well? You’re cool, and I’m hot!” Ann said, before laughing out loud.
Makoto giggled. Ann’s smile faded.
“Come on, Mako-chan. At least try to flirt back…” Ann said, dispirited.
“How?” Makoto said, deadpan.
“I dunno, like…” Ann started. “Maybe say something like uh… ‘I’d normally warm up by the fire, but honestly, you’re hotter’...or something?”
Makoto blinked.
“But it’s already really hot in here, why would I need to warm up more than I already am?” Makoto said, confused.

-Approached by Shadow Operatives due to controversy caused by the Conspiracy and, quite frankly, his blatantly obvious ties to the Phantom Thieves.
-Tokyo branch reserve operative., works undercover at Leblanc and actually wants to take over for Sojiro one day, so he is taking it pretty seriously despite his attitude.
-Somehow he knows everybody's business, likes to facilitate benign drama.

-College freshman, mostly taking online classes to "preserve her precious gaming time"
-Reluctantly had a totally average high school life despite already knowing most of the material because she wanted to ease Sojiro's worry over her not having that experience (she won't admit in, but she had fun. She went to Kosei to grief Yusuke)
-Ryuji's study buddy and designated taste-tester of Akira, Haru, and Yusuke's kitchen experiments. She is very spoiled by everyone and LOVES IT

College varsity volleyball
-Hypebeast energy; goes shopping with Ann often but shares taste with Ryuji in terms of clothes
-Brags about her model GF every chance she gets and drives her teammates up the wall
-Took her team to Leblanc one time and accidentally created an Akira fan club. It is her greatest regret

-Returns to Japan on breaks (usually with weird souvenirs because she likes to mess with everyone just a little bit)

-Haru consults with her a lot on dishes that are popular abroad so that she can add them to her restaurant/cafe chains

-Happened to meet Mr. Kurosawa after a seminar th police academy
-Is now peripherally aware of the existence of the Shadow Ops and becomes fully consumed with researh on the Kirijo Group
-Police Academy is a bust and she becomes a full-time Shadow Op, nearly wrings Akira's neck when she finds out he was already a reserve member
-Ann, Akira, and Ryuji still call her "prez" every now and then

Officially head of Okumura Foods and has developed a competent team and effective HR department. Morale is good!
-Now that the company is on its way to ethical function, she has started planning for her own personal projects and talks to Sojiro a lot
