in life, there's people that linger for only a short time, that are only meant to be a moment in time. then there's people who stay, who mean something even when time and distance changes things. for kyro, that's celeste. there will never be a time he thinks of her as just his ex-girlfriends. she's his friend, a constant. someone he'll forever make an effort to keep in his life in any way he can. so when there was an offer of dinner, there was no way he was turning it down. she opens the door and she's smiling and he barley has a minute to process as she ushers him inside. a wide grin soon tugs at his lips, eyes crinkled with softness. " smells amazing in here, " he states cheerfully. it feels familiar too. creates a warmth he can't find when he's on the road. " i got you these, " turns to hold out a bunch of flowers towards her, because there's always flowers. " i can't take any credit for how good they look, that was all winnie. " a moment passes, and finally he gets a proper look at her. takes it all in. kyro doesn't tend to get shaky breath, but in that split-second, he does. wants to tell her she looks beautiful, but he doesn't want to make it weird. yet, his next question still has the potential to. " did you miss me ? "

making dinner for kyro had once been no big deal, just another sunday night for the pair. now, letty bumbled around her kitchen, tasting everything twice, and then three times to make sure it was just right. though time had passed, his favorites were still at the forefront of her mind, preparing each dish the way she knew he liked them. it was just a catch up with a good friend, that's what she told herself. the rap at the door has her head snapping up, the dish on the stove turned to the lowest heat setting as she smoothed out her outfit and walked toward the door. with a deep breath, she pulled it open, smile wide and welcoming as she ushered him in. "hi ! you're just in time, dinner is almost ready."

kai stands in the doorway, hands stuffed into the pockets of his over-worn, over-sized jacket. it wasn't exactly in his plan to pop into the shop, but on his way home from working a double shift at the arcade, he'd struck with the notion to. a familiar exhaustion already set in deep. " some might call that perfect timing then, huh ? " his tone comes out dry, but there's a playful glint behind his gaze. the thing about kai is, he doesn't ask for help, or care to ever admit when there's a problem. but it's gotten to the point he has to try something. conceals a sigh beneath his breath as he walks inside, has a quick glance around before his eyes settle on her familiar features. " i can't sleep, " he admits, his voice carrying a trace of vulnerability he seldom shows. " figured you might have some kind of concoction for that. " insomnia has plagued him on and off for years, seems to have come back lately with some kind of vengeance. weed had worked wonders at one point, but he fears he's built up such an intolerance it would take more than anyone should smoke to help with that now. as  the  sun  dipped  lower  over  the  horizon ,      casting  a  golden  glow  over  the  quaint  beach  town ,      adi  carefully  arranged  her  wares  at  the  small  herbal  shop  she  managed  with  her  aunts  .      the  scent  of  dried  lavender  and  chamomile  filled  the  air ,      mingling  with  the  salty  breeze  that  drifted  in  from  the  ocean .      it  was  one  of  those  perfectly  peaceful  evenings ,      the  kind  that  felt  like  a  bonus  level  in  her  otherwise  busy  life .

with  a  sigh  of  contentment,      she  turned  to  the  door,     ready  to  hang  the  “ CLOSED ”  sign.     just  then ,     a  gentle  knock  sounded .     she  looked  up  to  see  them  standing  on  the  doorstep —     adi's  eyebrows  raised  in  surprise .  “     oh  hey !     we’re  just  about  to  close ,     but  if  you  want  something  from  the  store  i  can  help  you  out  real  quick !     ”     she  motioned  for  them  to  come  in ,     curiosity  twinkling  in  her  eyes.

noa opens her mouth to respond, then quickly stops herself. there's a slight air of confusion that surrounds the brunette who usually has a much easier time brushing people off. typically by this point someone would give up— one long-winded explanation was usually all it took. yet he's still asking, looking at her like he finds the whole thing amusing. she can't help but to find his teasing grin a little disarming. " you think my plans are perfect ? " is the first question to come, and it's totally not the point of the conversation, yet the words alone help lower the guard she has up. even if it wasn't meant that way. " fine, " she breathes out, corrects her posture as she flips long curls behind her shoulder, an attempt to distract from the fact she's slightly flustered. noa braunstein doesn't do flustered. " one dance. but you better not have two left feet because if you scuff my shoes, i won't be happy about it. they're jimmy choo's. " because of course, just like everything else, she already has her outfit planned to the last accessory. it's then she realizes her gaze has softened, smile warm. as if to conceal it, she's straight back into work-mode. " and if you make me miss anything important— anything at all— don’t blame me when your desirability score plummets and no one else wants to dance with you again. like ever. "

a grin takes hold of his lips , leaning back a bit as he watches noa go through her detailed explanation . his eyes gleam with amusement , arms crossing over his chest as he lets her words wash over him . he doesn’t interrupt — just lets her ramble , the corners of his lips quirking up the more she talks . when she finally stops , offering that polite smile , he chuckles softly , shaking his head . " you really think i’m gonna let you off that easy ? " his drawl is smooth , teasing as he raised an eyebrow , the corners of his lips curling into a teasing grin . “ sure , you’ve got charts and compatibility scores , and i get it , the whole world’s gonna be on your shoulders that night . but, imagine this — just one dance , no spreadsheets , no body language analysis . just you and me , lost in a moment that doesn’t fit into your perfect plan . what do you say ? ” dax’s gaze softened , a sincere look peeking through his playful exterior . “ i promise , it’ll be quick . i’ll even let you pick the song , so it’s not like we’re taking too much time out of your busy schedule . what do you say , noa ? give it a shot — just this once ? ”

kai chuckles softly, clearly amused by the warning. he leans in a little, resting his elbow on the table and his chin on his hand, his eyes gleaming with mischief. he's known her a long time, since they were both teens. though of course time has likely altered them both. but despite his teasing ways, there is part of him beneath the surface that finds her ways rather endearing. " it's just water, " he states, tone lightening ever so slightly. " easy to clean, " he adds with a hint of sarcasm as he reaches for a paper towel, pats it dry. " seriously, though . . . do you ever go a day without getting stressed about something ? "

maya could sense that kai just wanted to toy around with her. it wasn't even a good time for him to be doing any of this right now. her stress was going up slightly, even if he was just joking. she was certainly not in the best of moods for this to be going on. the brunette stared at him for a moment and give him the look of 'don't you dare!' when he was tipping over his water bottle. " you know... i know you're doing this just to annoy me, i wouldn't. because if it actually opens and gets all over everything for real... i won't be too happy about it. so keep your water far away from my stuff!
