Automatic Dark Mode on AO3

Do you use dark mode on your phone or computer? Do you wish AO3 would switch to dark mode when your device did? Good news! AO3 recently added a new option for skins that can help with that.

Here’s what you need to do to make AO3 automatically switch to the Reversi skin when you enable dark mode on your device:

Log in.

Copy the CSS for Reversi.

Go to the Create New Skin page.

Leave the “Type” field set to “Site Skin.”

Every skin on the Archive has to have a unique name, so fill in the “Title” field with something like “Your Name’s Automatic Dark Mode.”

Paste the CSS for Reversi into the big “CSS” field.

Where it says “Advanced,” press the “Show ↓” button to reveal more options.

In the section that says “Choose @media,” check the box for “(prefers-color-scheme: dark).” It’s one of the last options on the list, so you’ll have to scroll.

Press “Submit” to save your skin.

Press “Use” to apply it.

If your device is currently set to light mode, you won’t notice anything. But when you switch your device to dark mode, the Reversi skin will be applied to the Archive! When you switch back to light mode, you’ll see the regular white and red layout again.

The knees are always the first thing to go in my jeans. I tried fixing them with an iron-on patch exactly ONCE, that was a horrible result. Stiff and plasticky. And I can actually sew, so there's no excuse not to add a little flair.

Especially when I'm stuck at home.

Well darn, did the darning post explode in my face, lol. This post is in response to some of your comments.

1. It does not matter if your stitches are neat, nor does it matter if you sew by hand or by machine, or if you’re a beginner or a skilled embroiderer, you can go to town on your ripped jeans and have fun fixing them.

2. Darning eggs may be hard to find, but have you heard of darning mushrooms? They’re so cute! You can even get georgeous antique ones for fairly cheap on ebay or overpriced on etsy (I’m never gonna like this rip-off place, lol).

3. Fast fashion is such a scourge on the planet and violates human and labor rights, so I’m going to dedicate Mondays to posts about mending. 🌹 🌍 ❤️

Why do cat-themed superheroes always have to be women? Why can’t we ever get a Catman? And why do they always have to be agile, perfect thieves obsessed with shiny things? Every cat I’ve ever met is just a lazy lump of pure chaotic energy that cares more about swatting at anything remotely string-shaped than all the most expensive toys in the universe, and who fall off any surface they stupidly jump on because they’re fucking fools who don’t understand their own limits.
