The song from "Do you like this Video Game Song? #92" is from Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner, this is the battle music!

Oh thank you so much for the trouble of letting me know! The other songs are good too, I have a new work playlist :)

Stuck on the idea of vampires as a kind of reverse fae, or like someone's twisted, perverse attempt at moulding humans into fae.

They're repelled by liminal spaces.

A vampire could never enter fairyland, not just because they'd never be welcomed, but because most of the usual entry-ways are naturally barred to them.

They can't cross running water. They can't be seen in mirrors. They will wait forever at a crossroads, unable to pick a direction to go in. They can't even step over a thresh-hold unless there is absolutely no ambiguity about whether they are welcome inside.

They crave human blood, iron and salt, but are repelled by herbs and plants. They are supernaturally prevented from harming you unless the rules of hospitality have been invoked.

A fairy may replace your newborn child with something unnatural and ever-hungry. A vampire will do the same, but with your grandmother's corpse.

The fae are typically associated, even in stories where they're the bad guys, with flourishing and purity. Vampires, even in stories where they're the good guys, are typically associated with decay and corruption.

The fae turn ancient human burial mounds into fancy halls for their courts. Vampires take ancient human castles and let them grow mildewed and cobwebbed, exchanging the beds for coffins, turning them into burial places.

Fae don't tend to live among humans, but can generally pass for them with relative ease if they so choose. Vampires nearly always live among humans, but tend to find not revealing themselves a huge struggle.

I can't think of many stories I've read where fae and vampires even exist in the same universe, let alone ones where they actively interact. I feel like their enmity is almost more inevitable than that between vampires and werewolves, however.

The rivalry between vampires and werewolves is, essentially, the rivalry between two apex predator species who share a territory. (Even in stories where the werewolves aren't actually hunting humans.)

The vampires hate the werewolves because the werewolves interfere with their access to prey. The werewolves hate the vampires either because they consider themselves aligned with humans (the prey species), or because they are also predators and the vampires are competing with them.

By comparison, I think there's some story potential in the fae finding something genuinely creepy and uncanny valley about vampires.

They're immortal, like them, but also dead. They can be beautiful, like them, but that beauty is something they actively require humans to sustain. They like to inhabit beautiful and ancient ex-human dwellings, like them, but they actively work to make those places dark, damp and empty.

Fairies who are unflappable in the face of all sorts of Otherworldly monsters, can look an eldritch horror in the eye(s) without blinking, and have never been phased yet by any human, but will recoil from even the weakest vampire.

Vampires who hate fairies just as much, but in a more envious way. The way that the creature for whom immortality is a curse is bound to hate the creatures for whom immortality is an eternity of sunlight and laughter.

Maybe their touches burn each other. Maybe vampires can't stand physical contact with anything so alive and vital. Maybe immortal fairies become ill from too much exposure to the undead.

Maybe they fight over the human population when their territories overlap. The fairy need for servants and people to make deals with, competing with the vampire need for thralls and blood to drink.

Just… fairies and vampires. We need more stories about them interacting.

The ending of D20 Fantasy High Junior Year was disappointing to me in some ways (the bits were great, I just felt like there was a lot of squandered potential narratively). Luckily this beautiful AMV fills my heart, single-handedly making the season narratively worthwhile as well, and in only two minutes. If you haven't watch (all of) FHJY yet, I think the AMV is evocative enough that you can watch it without being spoiled for FHJY, just don't expect this level of emotional resolve from the season heh (but again, the bits were phenomenal, just go in with the right expectations).

love me. love me. love me.

I'm not sure about the pictures of planets in our own solar system, but I was at a presentation of someone who works with data from space that is much further away (of which NASA released all these beautiful pictures, made with data of the James Webb telescope), and the explanation on that is as follows:

Many things that we catch are in fact not visible to the human eye, because it concerns shades of infrared light. Therefore, these pictures have to be edited to construct something that is visible to us.

The person giving the presentation did not know exactly why certain colors are chosen over others when creating images like this, but suffice to say that it is not some capitalistic ploy but an effect of the type of data that we receive. It is not visible to the human eye, so in making it visible there always has to be some artistic renditioning.

"Pluto isn't a planet" Fine.

"Dinosaurs had feathers" Fine!

"Neptune isn't a beautiful oceanic blue, it's actually the same washed-out disappointing color as Uranus" I will kill you with my bare hands

"Pluto Isn't A Planet" Fine.

Look how they massacred my boy

I usually don’t reblog things, but I guess the start of my Tumblr career beyond lurking has to happen sometime and what better moment than this post by @geraltsbeard who kindly told me more about their OCs! Generally, I don’t get attached to characters through images alone, but @geraltsbeard OCs are so visually appealing I immediately wanted to know more about them.

They gave the above lore dump about two months ago, after I asked about more info, thanks so much for the lore dump and sorry for the million years it took to respond! I love them and the overall plot sounds like something I would love to read. Especially the idea that Aedan is questing to be able to settle down really speaks to me. It reminds me of the motivation of the hobbits in LotR, although the curse makes it very different as well, since he’s not protecting his home by going on the quest, he’s looking for a way to be able to create a home somewhere. Such a cool idea imo. Varah is just, my ideal protagonist in so many ways, I’m a sucker for these kinds of characters.

The original image that got me interested by the way, was the two of them bathing. A fantasy adventure with two people that love each other dearly traveling together appealed to me already, but the fact that it’s platonic makes me so happy. I think the original image that caught my attention also conveys the relationship you described here perfectly. In short, I can’t wait to see more of them whenever you feel like making more!

BIG LORE DUMP about my OCs under the cut in case anyone wants to know more about them hehe :3

I have really neglected posting orginal content for a long time and I just saw this thinking: what a coincidence, this looks a little bit like my comic. I wonder if the genie will be a duck as well?

And it is?! It’s actually inspired by my comic?!!! I cannot get over just finding art inspired by something I made years ago, and it’s animated so well too!! I am actually an animator myself (haven’t done it in literal ages though), but this is inspiring me to do some again as well. The smoothness, the fun swipes and expressiveness in a voiceless character, the characterization of the duck looking around sneakily before pulling out the lamp... UGHH, I love it so much! Thank you for sharing this, you’ve inspired me to pick up drawing/animating again as well!

[WARNING: slightly loud sound-effects, sorry!]

Hi everyone! This is my 4th go at animating and I really wanted to practice swipes and very sketchy in-betweens. This little guy was inspired by one of my favorite bloggers @duckaday who has made a couple really cute (and relatable) comics featuring adorably drawn ducks. I hope you enjoy this snippet, I couldn’t’ve done it without your lovely duck art and I hope you bless us with more!

As amusing as this train (ha) of thought is, I’d like to add that the Trolley Problem isn’t so much about who’s fault it is that people died, but about the best course of action when in a situation where you have to choose between two evils. In this situation would it be bad to intervene and by doing so condemning others?

Keeping with The Good Place references, I’d like to imagine this post as op standing on the trolley screaming: ‘Who designed this trolley without an emergency break!’ while driving over five people.

Hey so the trolley problem is dumb because the real person at fault for any of the deaths is the person who designed the trolley without an emergency braking system, the people who put in the purchase order for a trolley without an emergency braking system, the people who approved a PO for a trolley without an emergency braking system, the people who delivered a trolley without an emergency braking system, the organization that inspected and certified a trolley without an emergency braking system, and the operator who did not make a huge stink about being assigned to a trolley without an emergency braking system.

Whether you pull the lever is irrelevant, because a whoooole mess of people fucked up for you to be in that hypothetical situation.

Seriously, like, as a professional engineer, I find the premise of the trolley problem offensive. Cause like, so many safety regulations have been violated that it's just... insane.

Yes, I Am Petty.
Yes, I Am Petty.

Yes, I am petty.

Also, apparently bread is bad for ducks. Peas are a healthy alternative, but let’s be honest, we wouldn’t ask the genie for brocolli either.

(also, duck art is a populair tag and it makes me very happy)
