So well me and my dad were watching the amazing digital circus, we both started theorizing a lot, when we realized something

how are the others still alive if they can’t eat?

In the show it’s mentioned that the food has no nutritional value and only gives the sensation of eating. The theory here is that the real world equivalents of the characters found a weird headset, put it on, got scanned, and then took it off. The characters in the amazing digital circus are just recreations of the real people.

What does the rot taste like

I don't believe it would be quite palatable, as it digests everything it touches. Even if a small enough piece to be digestible could be separated and then eaten it would probably eat the mouth and head of the creature that tried that from the inside.

Although I have a strange feeling that by the colour it would taste sweetly, as many products (such as "nectar") made by the ancients were bright in coloration and sweet, or of similar exaggerated flavour.
