“Do you ever think about how much has changed for us?” Jade asks. She pushes her whetstone along the edge of her blade, the ringing of the metal a song to her ears. She’s careful, precise, forceful. She pauses a moment, bringing her gaze up to Elora’s. “We were different people before everything. And now…” She trails off. It occurs to her occasionally that she and Elora share similar histories. They served the royal family, were both wards of the queen, were both bonded to the prince and princess in their own ways. But it’s something they’ve never discussed. It wasn’t like they were friends before.
