And that means much of it is spent sparring, horseback riding, or Kit finding other means of getting them into trouble. At least, before the quest. If Kit is busy while Jade has free time, the young warrior can sometimes be found with Airk or some of the other members of the Pacalcade who take her around Tir Asleen. And if all else fails and Jade purely wants to be alone, there’s a good chance she’s sleeping in her room above the stables (though she prefers a full schedule and might feel guilty for this). Mind you, this is excluding any of the solo time spent on work related activities (i.e. training, exercising, dealing with the horses).

Fighting between them has always been a dance. Jade steps here, Kit moves there. Kit’s blue blade comes down, Jade’s green one flies up. Sparks fly before pushing off, searching for the next opening. Sparks always fly. But they've never danced so fast before, so lethally. Jade swings her blade down. She doesn’t want to mortally injure Kit. Just wound her well enough that she stops. Even Jade grows exhausted of swinging her lightsaber about, blocking, striking, pushing. And it weighs heavier with the conflict she feels swirling in the girl who was once her best friend. A storm so dark that Jade barely sees into it anymore. “And in your search, you chose to make enemies instead,” Jade observes when their blades lock once more. “Come home, Kit. Stop hiding.”

“You don’t have to,” Jade replies, shaking her head. Not everyone in the world is like her. She’s been fighting since she was a kid. She’s always ready to fight. Since learning her history, learning about her birth culture and the identity of her true father, Jade now knows she was born to fight. It comes naturally. But Ingvar, despite sharing her soft heart, does not seem to share her lack of compunction for violence. And that’s okay. Jade is here to protect people like him, to carry that weight for him. “Not everyone is made to fight, Ingvar, and that’s okay.”

“But you don’t have to fight us,” Jade insists. She takes a deep breath, looking away from the man that she’s come to accept is her brother. Her teeth press into her bottom lip as she considers her next words. This is a practice she’s used to. So many years of trying not to say the wrong thing to Kit in fear that might cause her to get upset or get angry or disappear. Quin is the same in that way. “I do fight, but I fight for what I love. It’s not enough to fight out of anger or fear. Because when you stop fighting, what does it mean in the end? And you do have to stop fighting eventually. Somehow.”

“There is always a choice, Elora!” It does feel like everything is falling apart. Even more so than when they reached the edge of the Shattered Sea. War is hard, even harder than any of them imagined when they walked into this. Hazel eyes move to look at the yellow glow, blinding them to what lays beyond that door. But Jade knows what’s there. She watched her go in. “Kit wouldn’t give up on us,” the knight declares, meeting the chosen one’s eyes again. “We don’t give up on her. We can save her. And her dad. We just have to make the choice.”

“Oh, my darling,” Jade mumbles tenderly. Fingers softly slide and tangle into her lover’s hair as foreheads gently meet. The knight closes her eyes, letting out a relaxing breath. “No more thinking. Council’s over. No more responsibilities.” They’ve been apart all day, which happens on occasion, much to their dismay. Most of the time, Jade sits in on the war council with Kit, Elora, and Sorsha as they prepare for the Wyrm. She is a knight now after all and she lived through the quest to save Airk and the battle against the Crone. Her opinion is valued. But she also has to take time to be a rather low ranking knight, to train with the other members of the Pacalcade, to teach some of the young students. She needs the camaraderie and to rebuild her reputation. She has to admit, though, she missed watching Kit be the authoritative leader she was always meant to be. But it was probably best Jade wasn’t there to give her lustful glances for hours. “Just be with me.”
