Minji didnโt expect much from sleeping with the hot muscle at her local bar. She left first, after all.
Changbin knows her face. Sheโs a regular of the bar that Hyunjin runs, loves a strong drink, and has some truly beautiful tattoos.
It shouldโve been a one-time thing. That was until Minji inadvertently got herself caught in the middle of a gang war by somehow pissing off the wrong person.
notes: heyo! welcome to this series! this came to me on a whim, but I hope people enjoy it. be warned, this is going to an incredibly questionable series and definitely not morally good. none of the characters are law-abiding citizens lmao.
one - mysterious strangers two - you've got to be kidding me three - new friends? four - whiskey-filled stories five - welcome to the compound six - dish it out seven - lifestyles eight - second time

Felix remembered the Eva of nine years ago, when he saw her off at the airport. Overjoyed at the prospect of seeing his cousin again has made his friends curious about the mysterious cousin. Even more so when she's nothing like he described.
Eva remembers Felix, the only cousin close to her in age, who lit up every room he stepped into. He's the only thing that doesn't hurt about her family anymore. And he's still the same as he was nine years ago, like he had been frozen in time. She's not.

Her hearing came back first, followed by touch. Someone was touching her wound, with gloves on luckily. Her shirt was bunched up to her chest, and she could feel the warm leather of the parlour lobby's couch against her bare back.ย
Various voices filled the room.
The brunette and ginger from earlier, at least three others, and fucking Changbin.
Her vision came back a moment or two later, at first only blurs and strange shapes before her eyes decided to focus.
A pretty man with sandy-brown hair was above her, with a medical mask and wearing gloves like she had guessed, gently tending to the unhealed wound on the right side of her abdomen.
"Hello." He said calmly, as he continued to do whatever it was he was doing.
She didn't particularly feel like looking down at the cavity in her side.
"Hi."
"Well, you're alive, that's good."
She registered the brunette from earlier now standing next to the couch, looking down at her.
"Hyun if you don't move and stop shadowing my work I'll flood your bloodstream with BTX." The man tending to her snapped.
"Geez, you are picky." The brunette, Hyun, huffed. "I was just making sure she was actually alive. I'd like to actually be able to get our tattoos."
"Hw-"
"Is that what knocked me out? BTX?" She interrupted, making both men at her.
"Yes. Small dosage, with a delaying chemical in it."
"That shouldn't be possible."
The man tending to her raised a brow, "Oh?"
"There's no known antidote."
"Not to the general public." He said, continuing to calmly tend to her wound, "But I've never met someone who casually knows the acronym for Batrachotoxin."
"Med student."
"You're a tattoo artist."
"Used to be a med student."
"Hmm." He said, "Explains the stitching then. I fixed them. Limit your movement for a few weeks. Drink lots of water and increase the iron in your diet. Should be healed in a month."
She finally looked at the wound, no longer hastily stitched together from her struggle-filled attempt with her bathroom mirror as a guide. It was cleanly stitched together, fully cleaned and gently wrapped with some sort of sterile wrap that hugged her entire abdomen slightly. He rolled her shirt back down, before pulling away, discarding his gloves and mask in a trashcan.
Hyun helped her sit up, and she finally noticed a large number of people in her lobby.
The three voices she had heard earlier (along with Changbin and the ginger) were huddled around her precious sketchbook, two of them with unpleasant looks on their faces.
"-fucking coward, just get it out of her."
"I'm awake you dicks."
Call her crazy, but she was infuriated about them touching her sketchbook without permission and how they were speaking about her. If they were going to be like that, she did not want them as her clients.
Scarlet Lagoon be damned.
"Good. What's your relationship to GOT7." One of the men said, with dark brown hair and a seemingly permeant scowl on his face.
"If I told you that, I'd have to kill you all and then myself."
A few of the guys smiled at that, but Minji refused to let loose.
"Bold talk for someone who just almost died." He snarked, lips curled in distaste.
"I would've stayed dead if I knew I had to deal with your oh-so-lovely presence."
He stepped forward, probably to strangle her before he was tugged back by another man, with curly hair and plump lips. He was the one holding her sketchbook.
He approached her, squatting to meet her eye and holding her book out to her. Her heart caught at the picture in front of her. It was all the way at the back of her book, back when she was still an apprentice. Her linework wasn't as good, neither was her ability to take photos.ย
It was the picture of Yugyeom's tattoo. It was his, she knew, not any of the other six because of how she doodled a little star next to his name, unlike the other names in the description. Their real names. That and she could probably pick out just his hand in a line.
"Thereโs no denying you know them, most likely personally, so Iโm going to ask a different question that will hopefully understand where we are coming from. Did Yugyeom or BamBam ever mention a Chan or Chris to you?โ He smiled.
She eyed him curiously, โYeah, little mousey kid who fought like a feral wolf.โย
The man in front of her chuckled, his eyes twinkling with what she thought was nostalgia.ย
โLet me introduce myself then. Iโm Bang Chan, and this is my group. Weโre called Stray Kids.โ
ย โOh.โ Was her response.ย
A long, silent pause reverberated around the saloon.ย
โIโm guessing you want those tattoos then. Thatโs fine. Iโll finish them and then you can kill me or whatever.โย
Chan chuckled, โYes to the first part, no to the second. Iโd rather not have Yugyeom murder me from wherever heโs hiding.โย
Her eyes flashed slightly in distrust, and he gave her another charming smile before setting her baby back in her hands.ย
โItโs good to finally meet you in person, Jung Minji. Iโve heard so much about you.โ
โโโ
With proper introductions handled and some more shit sorted out, Minji's distrust of the group had waned. Did she trust them? Not in the slightest, but she at least didn't feel like murdering them anymore.
She had killed one too many this month.
Before they had gone, disappearing from Seoul's scene without a word or warning, they had built up quite an empire. Enough to have subordinates and an entire organized system of people that they trained and worked for them. Highly confidential information was freely spoken to her, and she retained the information even as the years passed by. Certain people they trained tended to stick out, Mark and Jaebum selecting those people for certain things and testing them. A year or two before their vanishing act, they had spoken about Chan, their star pupil and arguably favourite employee forming his own gang with some of their other underlings. The guys had allowed it, powerful enough that they had more to manage than they could just do. Stray Kids had formed, handling more of the ground-level stuff and building their skills and reputation. Jaebum had wanted to see how they would do, with the hope that the new gang would do well enough to eventually take GOT7's place in Seoul.
The gang life was a young man's life after all.
None of them had expected GOT7's disappearance so quickly, however. Even though she was one of two people who knew their location, she was still blind to the whole story behind it.
She was never a member of GOT7, but her close relationship with the elite of Seoul's underground granted her unique privileges. Even though Yugyeom had forbidden it, she had never had an interest in joining her childhood best friend in his lifestyle. She was adjacent. A normal somewhat upstanding citizen to most, a party girl studying at one of the best medical programs in the country on a full-ride scholarship.ย
She had good composure, better than most people. Even better than Yugyeom. And he was their Ace. It was as simple as breathing when it came to hiding the other side of her life, experimenting with highly illegal and dangerous chemicals in Jinyoung's lab and cursing out Mark as she sat passenger in his car during drifting races.
The guys valued her. It was good to have a person with a "normal life", for appearance's sake. Trips in polite society were easier with an exhausted and heavily tattooed university student at your side, who tended to rattle about truly obscene things.
Everyone noticed Minji. No one tended to notice the men with her other than the fact that they were all attractive and she seemed to rotate who picked her up from late-night labs.
The most anyone questioned was how many boyfriends she apparently had. Never mind that Minji would probably puke herself to death before she dated any of them.
She wondered if people would make the same assumptions about her around this new group of guys. Granted, it had been a few years since she'd been a student.
Didn't help that she had already slept with one of them.
One that she was currently sitting across from in the empty Serpent Lagoon, the two of them along with Chan seated at the bar discussing designs.
The Lagoon's owner, whom she had learned was named Hyunjin and not Hyun, had asked her to come to the Lagoon for the consultation instead because Jeongin (the one who had kept her from dying) wanted to make sure there were no traces of BTX in her bloodstream and to give her some antibiotics to aid with her recovery.
Jeongin had met with her first, quietly chatting with her about Seoul National University the whole time.
They had both gone to the same program and hilariously had both dropped out of their programs out of boredom.
But now she was no longer swapping pre-med horror stories with a man younger than her, instead, she was ironically discussing pain tolerance with a man who had caused the longest-lasting bruises on her hips that she had ever had.
It was a strange form of whiplash, but Minji refused to let it interrupt her creative process.
"So it's best to go with something simplistic in design. Something that you could easily tag things with if need be or stamp on. The more complicated it is, the less usable it is from a branding standpoint." She said, staring at a page of various designs that she had sketched out. "GOT7's logo is good for that reason."
"Are you just saying that because you designed it?" Chan teased.
"You can keep going but you'll get a cock inked onto you somewhere if you do." She snarked back, making Changbin all but choke on his drink.
"Sorry to interrupt the alcoholics meeting but we've got a problem."
The three of them turned to look at another member, Seungmin, who was standing there with a sheepish look on his face.
"What is it?" Chan said, "What level of a problem are we dealing with."
"Depending on who you are."
"Cut the dramatics, Seung."ย
"Someone trashed and set fire to your shop Minji."ย
She probably should've had a sombre or reasonable reaction. Something like, 'Oh no' or to start crying that her life goal actualized was trashed and she'd have to rebuild.
But no, instead she said, "You're shit at giving news."
There was a pause until Changbin started uncontrollably giggling out of nervousness.ย
"Bin shut the fuck up." Chan sighed, smacking his second-in-command on the shoulder, "Go find Jisung and Minho, and tell them to take the van. Minji, we'll have to reschedule. They'll take you over so you can salvage what you can."
She paused, eyes focusing on the gang leader.
Any of the other gang leaders she'd had the misfortune of interacting with beforehand would've laughed at her as they kicked her out, and found another tattoo artist. Her shop was likely destroyed beyond repair and he was using his resources to help her.
It was kind.
"Thank you, Chris." She said softly, slipping a bookmark into her sketchbook and closing it. "Seungmin, what's the damage like?"
"Couldn't see internally, but all the windows and the door are smashed to bits and the sign was ripped down." Seungmin said, "Walls are charred but not broken, don't know how much of the fire reached the inside. But something was spray-painted on the outside to tell us who did it."
"What was tagged?" Chan asked, hands busy with making a drink of sorts.
"Serpents Bite," Seungmin said, turning his gaze back to Minji. "Turns out that guy you killed a week ago was pretty important."
She didn't even bother to ask why they knew she killed a man.
"Who did I kill then?"
"Not sure of the name, but he seems to have been a high-ranking Green Serpent. My best guess is either their Infiltration Master or potentially even their Second-In-Command."
If the leader of a gang was Zeus, the second-in-command was Hades. Powerful, out of sight, and often way more dangerous. Hell, Changbin's field name in the scene was 'The Enforcer'.
"Right, so I'm fucked. Who exactly are the Green Serpents, I'm not familiar with the name?"
"Our rivals. They've been around for the past two years and causing a ruckus." Seungmin explained.
Chan scoffed, "And they were most likely involved with GOT7's disappearance."
Her mouth moved before she could stop it, "They weren't?"
"Oh?" Chan's voice shifted into something else, something darker.
"How the hell would you know?" Seungmin blurted, completely confused.
"I physically cannot say anything more but I know who was behind their disappearance. If the Green Serpents had something to do with it, I would've known their name already."
The thick silence was cut through by the loud voice of the ginger, who's name was Jisung, "Woah, who died in here."
Minji sighed, "My will to live. Let's go."
The drive to Death's Bouquet was entirely compromised by Jisung egging Minho (the scowling brunette who previously almost wanted to strangle her) on to the point that she was sure that the silent killer was going to flip the car, Chan's orders be damned.
When they got there, it took her a moment to exit the vehicle. It was almost completely destroyed, and it would've almost been better if it was still burning.ย
The sole police officer watching the tapped-off building waved her after showing identification. She waved him off, saying that she'd deal with the building and he didn't need to watch it anymore. A friendly smile and the softening of her voice worked wonders, and the man left soon after that.ย
She stepped inside the building, pushing open the door entirely unnecessary since all of the glass was on the ground. The interior was scorched, the couch seemingly kindling for the rest of the room. She went straight to the desk, completely unsurprised that the computer was fully gone, the drawers ripped open.
She reached into the open drawer, fingers grasping at the back of the drawer to slide a latch. The bottom of the drawer popped, and she was quick to pull it out, setting it on the desk.
"Smart," Minho commented, his voice close to her ear.
She hadn't even realized he was standing so close to her.
Within the hidden compartment, she removed her previous handgun, two full magazines, a small book, and a single gold chain with a live bullet dangling from it.
"That's... a strange collection." He mused.
"Thanks..."
"Anything else you want from this room?" Jisung asked, gesturing to the charred rooms.
"Yeah, could you take all the paintings off the wall?"
"They're horribly charred," Minho said.
"They're important." She said, her voice gaining a sharp bite.
Jisung all but shrugged but started to do as she asked. She made no comment as Minho followed her into the hallway that went towards the washroom and the two tattoo studios, hers and the other artist Wei's. Wei's room was closed, and when she opened the door it was completely untouched.
She had already messaged Wei about what had happened, so she was quick to message the artist that their supplies were untouched.ย
The same could not be said about her studio, hell even the bed and her rolling chair were broken. The inks were dumped all over the floor and the lights smashed into bits.ย
The one thing in the room that was salvageable was somehow her tattoo gun and tips. She quietly packed the salvageable items up in a small cardboard box, before heading back to Wei's studio to collapse the bed.
As she was picking up the pieces, Minho wandered back out to Jisung. He had already pulled all the paintings off the walls when Minho walked in, but he was holding one painting in particularly curiously.
"What's up with the painting?"
"This was in Jaebum's office. Youngjae had painted it for him." Jisung said, his brow furrowed. "It was one of the things gone from their offices when they vanished."
Minho dropped his voice, "Did she steal their stuff?"
"I don't think that's the case. She clearly knows something about them vanishing, but she's not saying anything."
"Is she not saying anything out of loyalty to them or someone else?"
"I don't fucking know, Min. If you're concerned about it, tell Chan."
Jisung went to set the painting down in the box, but as he shifted his grip on the painting, a letter slipped out, hidden in the backing and miraculously saved from the fire.
"What the fuck-"
Jisung was staring at the back of the letter, or rather the names written on it.
"Can one of you help me with this bed?"
The sender was Kim Euigyeom, and it was addressed to Lee Miyeon.
Jisung shot Minho a look, "We need to tell Chan."
"Hello?"
"Coming!"
