Superman's father, Jor-el, first learned of Krypton's imminent demise from ancient Kryptonian texts that predicted its core's explosion. After years of study, Jor-el proved scientifically that the core was unstable, but the rest of the scientific community was not convinced, and even if he could have convinced the entire world there was not enough time to build enough space craft to save everyone.

In the end Jor-el was only able to send his son, Kal-el to the nearest world in his galaxy that supported humanoid life similar to Krypton's. But Jor-el could not have predicted the effect it's smaller size and brighter star would have on Kryptonian physiology.

Carter Hall, famed egyptologist, discovered the nth metal he uses to fly among Egyptian artifacts and created his Hawkman identity in homage to the hawk god Horus. Later Carter Hall learned that nth metal was left on Earth AI by Thanagarians who visited Earth before the rise of the Egyptian kingdom. Their appearance inspired belief in the Egyptian hawk god Horus upon which the Egyptians built their entire pantheon of animal headed dieties.

Dr. Midnite is an alchemist who, while experimenting with an unusual mineral, created a chemical vapor that transported him to the 21st century. His amazing abilities as an alchemist to develop powders, potions, and gases give him formidable powers. Unfortunately without the mineral he left behind in his home century he is unable to time travel again.  

The Metal Men are a group of nearly identical robots, created by Doc Magnus who has imbued each of them with a unique and annoying personality. Nearly impossible to shut up, they prattle on about themselves and bicker with each other. On every one of their adventures their incompetence inevitably leads to their utter destruction, but Doc Magnus just keeps making more.

Mr. Mxyzptlk is an occasional visitor to Earth AI from the 5th Dimension. A kind of magical imp, he can actualize anything his demented mind can conceive and creates havoc whenever he arrives. The only way he can be sent back to the 5th Dimension and his hallucinogenic nightmares can be ended is by hearing his name in polite conversation, and since most humans find his name unpronounceable he is extremely difficult to defeat!

Adam Strange is unknown on his home planet, Earth AI, but on the planet Rann in the Andromeda galaxy, Adam is a super-human defender of Rann against warring factions in an intra-galactic war. On Adam’s first visit to Rann, he single handedly repelled an invasion by a Grrfthian space fleet through a combination of super-human strength and ingenious tactical maneuvers.

Adam is stronger than the native humanoid Rannians due to Rann’s lower gravity. The higher oxygen content of Rann’s atmosphere energizes and mildly intoxicates earth men, making them feel nearly omnipotent and willing to take almost unimaginable risks.

Adam is instantly teleported from Earth AI to Rann by Zeta technology which uses the as yet unknown (to Earth scientists) indifference principle - the notion that matter is indifferent to it’s location in space and can be relocated by a suggestion of a new location. Sardath, a Rannian scientist inadvertently teleported Adam from Earth AI to Rann during a Zeta technology experiment. At present the dislocation of matter is temporary. It wears off after a few days.
