So, this is how they decided to describe Finnpoe hug in the TROS novelization...

They could literally end this sentence after „hugging” and it would’ve been fine, would have even made more sense. Instead, what we got was Disney/Rae Carson desperately trying to ensure no one thinks about Finn and Poe’s relationship anything other than how completely platonic it is.
And you can’t even excuse this with potential censorship - Star Wars novels never really shy away from depicting other sexualities, so that’s not an issue here. An issue here is that someone at Lucasfilm/Disney is a complete jerk who doesn’t understand how much this relationship means to so many people. How much it would mean if, if nothing else, they would leave it ambiguous. And surely they are NOT oblivious to what the fans think because Finnpoe got the biggest amount of press/publicity/actors support I’ve ever seen.
I have no idea how much of this was Disney and how much of it was Rae Carson’s own initiative, but I’m pretty certain it COULD HAVE BEEN done without „like the brothers they were” (Rebecca Roanhorse managed to write a whole, important TROS-prequel novel under Disney’s supervision & without this kind of statements so there’s that)
At this point I am just beyond grateful that Oscar and John aren’t obliged to work for Disney anymore and I thank them for the support they’ve given us, AND their acting choices, because at the end of the day - this is what really matters and this is what’s gonna be remembered as Star Wars canon.
