Monarch Fukuzawa Yukichi escaping from the stress of being a royal, as the cheery reader helps him wind down in the gardens with no-one else to on-look. Thank you! (50 follower event btw)

Hello! I really enjoyed writing this, and I hope you enjoy reading it! :)

The Iris and the Golden Rose

Monarch Fukuzawa Yukichi Escaping From The Stress Of Being A Royal, As The Cheery Reader Helps Him Wind

Pairing: King!Fukuzawa x gn!Courtier!Reader

Writing Genre: drabble

Genres: medieval times, fluff

Word count: 483

Warnings: none

Title: Since this story takes place in the castle gardens, I wanted to title it after flowers that would represent both Fukuzawa and the reader! Here Fukuzawa is the Iris which represents royalty, wisdom, and respect; the Reader is the Golden (Yellow) Rose which represents friendship, joy, and cheer!

Notes: I gift you this fic while I spend the day with friends at the Renaissance Festival! Enjoy! :)

Read it on ao3!

The castle gardens have always been a place of solace for Fukuzawa. Peaceful sunlight falling upon comforting flowers and greenery accompanied by the soft chirping of birds. His robes flowed in the light wind as strands of his hair flew in front of his eyes, delicately brushing across his cheeks. He began humming an old melody as his thoughts drifted.

The preparations for the upcoming masquerade were pestering his daily thoughts. From the moment he saw the sun to the last time he saw the moon, his mind was clouded by stress and worry. He had many associates and acquaintances in the castle, but very few friends.

Many were intimidated by his stoic and quiet demeanor, but you were not.

He had selected you as one of his courtiers a few years ago after hearing about your superior knowledge and skill. While you were not of noble birth, you were well known throughout your duchy. After arriving at the castle, you only exceeded his expectations; for once in his life he was thankful for gossip.

A soft rustling of the rose bushes stirred him from his thoughts and song. Opening his eyes he saw a figure in white approaching him. You.

"Hello, Your Majesty!" you cheered.

"Hello, my light." he smiled.

As you sat next to him on the stone bench, he noticed a black leather-bound book in your hands. You took a deep breath, inhaling the sweet and floral scent of the wind before shifting your head in his direction.

“Would you like me to read to you?”

“That would be delightful.” he responded, angling his head up toward the sun. “Which book will it be today?”

“The Tales of the Silver Wolf.” you said, looking at the title page.

He hummed contentedly, signalling for you to begin reading.

The book contained several stories, each about the narrator’s explorations through their life. It provided philosophical insight to subjects such as emotions, relationships, trauma, and human life. By the time you finished sharing the tales, you could see a pleasant air about Fukuzawa.

“Do you know who wrote that book?” he asked, turning to look into your eyes.

“No, Your Majesty, I do not.”

“I did. It is a reflective recount of my life thus far.”

A slightly stunned smile found your lips as you set the book down.

“Will I be in your next book?”

“Of course you will, my dear.” he responded, embracing your right hand with both of his. They had hints of roughness and scars due to his time on the battlefield, though their warmth was not unpleasant.

You placed your head on his left shoulder, prompting him to kiss the crown of your head with a soft smirk. Butterflies flew along their paths, observed by the King and his future partner as they sat together in merry silence, basking in the other’s presence to ease their busy minds.

Overview
Edit
The subject matter of childlore includes the traditions of children between the ages of about 6 and 15 such as games, riddles, rhymes, jokes, pranks, superstitions, magical practices, wit, lyrics, guile, epithets, nicknames, torments, parody, oral legislation, seasonal customs, tortures, obscenities, codes, etc.[2] as well as individual activities such as solitary play, daydreaming, fantasies, imaginary friends and heroes, collections, scrapbooks, model worlds, comic reading, mass media interests, dramatizations, stories, art, etc.[2]

As a branch of folklore, childlore is concerned with those activities which are learned and passed on by children to other children. The stories and games taught by adults to children are not considered childlore except insofar as the children adapt and make them their own.
