Elf Drabble Request!!

► 12. “I’m pregnant.” Kandomere

You knew he paid attention to the little things.

When something was moved he noticed. When you didn’t answer on the third ring of his phone called he noticed. When you didn’t wash your hair with those three drops of tea tree essential oil mixed into the shampoo he noticed.

So when you were sicker than normal he was beyond notified…..he was alarmed. Your skin wasn’t hot to the touch and the rise and fall of your chest as you heaved over the toilet didn’t falter in pattern. You waved him away mumbling about bad sushi from downtown. He relented only after bringing back a soothing warm cup of tea. At the bottom were three little lemon slices and you could see the glob of honey starting to dissolve; enough to sweet and not ruin the taste of the tea.

Afterwards he insisted you brushed your teeth, the stench of vomit burned his sensitive nose. While you curled up in bed, he cleaned the toilet and threw out the mat from where you didn’t reach the toilet in time.

On his way back to the bedroom, Kandomere stopped at the large calendar he kept posted in his office. In the right corner of each day, as it passed, was a little start drawn in pencil. Each week a different symbol.

He noticed the past week had been left unmarked and he swiftly walked back to the bathroom. Beneath the sink was an opened pack of familiar pink and yellow feminine care products. The same could be said for the full container of pain medication and the untouched secret stash of chocolate you kept in the bottom of your towel bin.

It was probably nothing until he causes the fresh stench of vomit again. Running to the bed room he saw you heaved over the bed, still clutching the mug of spilling tea, while shaking from each upchuck. He was quickly at your side, prying your grip from the mug before you burned yourself more. When you were done he ran a bath, cleaned the bed while you soaked miserably, and came to you with clean clothes; a shirt and panties this time.

“You’re pregnant,’ he murmured against your head. It took you a moment, of course the past couple of months you and Kandomere had been more intimate, though it never crossed your mind that you might be carrying his child. Spotty periods before this was a normal occurrence before Kandomere. Missing one meant doubling up on the next; so, testing for a pregnancy hadn’t crossed your mind.

“I’m pregnant.”

You replied after a few minutes of silence.

Kandomere saw your eyes fall closed and he wasn’t sure if it was from shock or exhaustion.

A/N: Okay so this one wasn’t a request but I recently heard the song “When you say nothing at all” for the first time in ages and that song means a lot to me because when we were babies, that was one of the songs my dad used to rock me and my sister to sleep to. So I just thought this would be kind of cute…

You opened your eyes; the light from your alarm clock was bright, glaring at your face. Squinting, you could just about make out the time, 03:07.

“Bollocks” you whispered under your breath. Instinctively you reached your hand out behind you to your husband’s side of the bed. When you couldn’t feel his warm hand where it usually is, you rolled over to face his spot, wondering if he had left to go and film for his new movie. He couldn’t have, the empty space was still warm. You shifted your body over, snuggling into Tom’s spot, breathing in his scent. Just as you began to drift off back to sleep, you heard the soft giggle of your 6 month old daughter through the baby monitor. “You think that’s funny do you?” You heard Tom ask your baby. “What’s so funny hey? No, no that’s daddy’s nose.” You lay there laughing to yourself. The two of them continued to giggle. Climbing out of the bed, you decided to go and see your husband in what was clearly his natural habitat. Ever since your daughter had been born, he hadn’t seemed even remotely out of his comfort zone. 

You stood in the doorway, Tom hadn’t spotted you, his attention was solely focused on the precious little baby girl in his arms. He was looking down at her and she was looking up at him, smiling. The soft light from the street outside the window shone through the thin curtains, illuminating the two of them. “It’s amazing how you can speak right to my heart,” Tom began to sing, rocking his daughter in his arms, “without saying a word, you can light up the dark.” He was still smiling down at her as she smiled back and stretched her tiny hand up to his face. “The smile on your face lets me know that you need me” he turned his head slightly to kiss the tiny hand on his cheek. “There’s a truth in your eyes saying you’ll never leave me” her hand dropped as she started to drift off to sleep. You lent against the doorframe, cocking your head to rest it against the frame. Tears began to form in your eyes, what’s better than the sight of the man you love holding and singing to the one thing you both hold dearest in the world? “The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me whenever I fall” Tom swayed from side to side, gently bouncing your baby before adding “I will always catch you, my little princess.” He kissed the top of her head and gently placed her back in the cot, whispering “goodnight, my little princess.” Once she was safely in her cot, you silently made your way over to Tom. You were almost all the way across the room before he spotted you. Once he’d seen you, he couldn’t take his eyes off you.  “Hey” he whispered so that the baby didn’t wake. “Quite the show you put on there” you smiled, making the last few steps towards him until he was within arm’s reach. “Only the best for my baby girl” there was a look of pure love and joy in his eyes as he reached out and placed his hands on your waist, pulling you into his body.  You sighed contently, letting him pull you on close. Burying your face in his t-shirt and wrapping your arms around his waist. “She looks just like you when she sleeps you know” he said.  Looking up at him with a grin, you retorted “she acts just like you when she’s awake.” You waited to see if he was going to say anything, he didn’t so you continued, “a drama queen,” you raised an eyebrow which gained you a soft chuckle, “a drama queen I would sacrifice anything for in a heartbeat.” “You, y/n, are the kindest woman I know, what on earth did I do to deserve you?” He looked down at your daughter, “both of you. I’m the luckiest man in the world.”

Thank you.” he added placing a hand over his heart “For uh making this boy feel like one of the girls.” he nodded his head as the crowd, along with you, cheered for him and laughed.

“There are also some incredible women I want to thank.” he continued “My mother, who took the flight right from Stockholm, Sweden to be here today. That means a lot to me.” he said and you grinned, clapping along with everybody else as you looked at your mother-in-law and she smiled back before both of you looked at Alexander “Oh and- and-” he remembered something as it seemed “Thanks for giving birth to me. That- that was pretty cool.” he shrugged softly and you giggled as the crowd laughed.

“And of course this is dedicated to the three of the most beautiful women on the face of Earth, other than my wonderful mom, that I have the great pleasure to call my daughters and wife!” he grinned, locking eyes with yours as you clapped with a big smile along with the rest of the audience “My wife really above everybody not just for putting up with me, not just for- for loving me so much as to be the mother of my child for the third time. Real big great job for that honey, I don’t know how you do it!” he chuckled and the audience laughed as you shrugged.

You had been with S.H.I.E.L.D. since you were a little kid. Your father, your grandfather, everyone had been with S.H.I.E.L.D. You felt it almost an obligation to be an agent. Having your daughter and being a single mother was a bit of a setback, but you always had someone there. Typically, it was your best friend Sharon Carter who was commonly called “Auntie Sharon” by your daughter. Starting up missions again was a wonderful feeling, but the aching thought of leaving you daughter behind made you not want to go at all. “Hey, look. I have a buddy that lives literally right next to us. He loves kids, super nice guy.” she smiled and you reluctantly take your daughter down a few doors. Needless to say, you were shocked when you were greeted with the Captain America. “Oh, you’re (y/n)! Nice to meet you! I’m Steve. This is your little girl?” he grinned, shaking your hand. You left contently for that mission, knowing the Captian America could do no harm to your two year old little girl. So, schedule was, everytime you left for a mission and Steve was available, she would go to him. He begged to see her before he leaves on missions and takes her on dates. You were sure you were falling in love with the hero. No doubt about it. So when Steve asked you on a date with rose petals trailing behind him as he walked from his apartment to yours, you happily said yes. “Awesome! I’ll call you when I get back from my mission and we can talk then?” he grinned, kissing both you and your little girl on the cheek, leaving for his week stay-away with Sharon. You were bubbling with excitement, ready for your best friend and possible boyfriend to come back home. That is, until you heard Sharon stay over the night you were supposed to. Many bad things happened. Needless to say, you and Sharon were not friends anymore. And you were out of a babysitter.
