I’m always impressed with the “witches are conspiring to fell humanity” crowd. We can barely conspire to do one thing in unison. Good luck trying to assemble more than two in a room together at the same time. How are we supposed to destroy the social order without at least five lengthy debates and nine absences?

My Coming Out Story...

I’ve always liked girls since I was very little, but I figured I was broken because little girls are supposed to like little boys with cooties and little boys are supposed to pull cute girls’ pigtails. So when a new student moved here from England and all the girls started talking about him, I assumed I should like him as well. Instead, I fell for the girl who’s lips were stained a beautiful cherry red from the Rita’s Italian ice we had in class.

Years later I’m now in 7th grade. None of the boys catch my eye, so I watch as all of my friends start dating and leave me behind. There’s this cute girl in my class. I feel sad as I stare at her beauty and look into her beautiful sea green eyes. She doesn’t look back at me though. Her attention is on my brother as she belittles this gay girl in one of the other classes. “Gays are gross,” she says and it’s what I’ve always been told so it must be true. Turns out, while I was watching her, her brother was watching me. We started dating the following week only to break up two weeks later. I didn’t like him the way he liked me.

My family started to notice I was different. They didn’t know how, but they knew something didn’t match up. My brother tried to drown me in the pool. My mother beat me until I was bloody and covered with bruises and welts. To get away, I visit my dad and grandparents. They’re watching a news article about gays and say things like, “it’s all a phase,” and “gays are disgusting.” I cried myself to sleep that night.

I knew I needed to fit in. I needed to be normal. My friends and I watched porn together. They kept talking about the guy’s dick. I don’t know why. Dicks are weird and it looks like it would hurt. My eyes stayed on the girl.

My teacher in sex ed said that girls fall in love when they lose their virginity during intercourse with a male. Maybe I just need to have sex. That girl seemed to feel good in the video. Besides, I don’t want to die a virgin. I had sex with multiple guys over the next couple of years. I couldn’t get wet most of the time and I never fell in love.

It’s senior year of high school and I meet this girl. My heart races whenever I look at her and when she asks me out, I can’t help but say yes. Turns out, she’s just forcing herself to be attracted to girls and we never even held hands. I like her, but I can’t be a lesbian. Lesbians don’t date or have sex with guys.

I’m now 21, turning 22 in 2 months. I don’t know if god really exists or if my family will ever accept me for who I really am. What I do know, is that I am a proud lesbian and I have a great support group of friends and my little sister who love and support me, and I have a date with the most beautiful and amazing girl tonight and one day, I hope we’ll have a cute little house full of house plants and we’ll still be just as obsessed and in love with each other as we are now after these past couple of years. ❤️🌈

notice how “girls mature faster” is never stated as a reason why girls should be given more positions of power and authority? It only works to hold girls to greater accountability than boys and to justify men’s attraction to them.

This is my favorite thing and my new response to straight men when they try to talk shit to me because I’m a lesbian lol
