I hope it's okay to share but I totally get what you're saying about not being as open with people you aren't close with & being told you're "bad" for it (you're not). I'm not comfortable at all with being super open and loving with people who aren't super close to me and it's always been an awkward thing for me - like you said, why would you (general you, not you specifically) treat someone new like someone you're close with? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Idk where I'm going with this but yeah you're not the only one who feels that way.
