Tonight I taught my students 4 things: - The arm bar - The Pendulum Swing, Opa Sweep, or Flower Drill (Depending on what name your instructor uses) - Escape from Arm Bar - Countering the Counter

The Arm Bar and Pendulum sweep use the exact same setup. The only difference is that the leg that would go over your opponents head needs to be used to help you roll into mount.  From mount, I showed the students how to do a Z Mount, which then lead into another arm bar.

During their rolling session, 2 students worked through the escape of arm bar from mount, to taking the back, or passing an arm bar when their opponent attempted to throw it from guard.  They went through this about 8 times before the student being attacked finally was able to take his opponents back.

Wednesday - Workout

My body decided it wanted to jog this morning, then do rows.  /me sighs.  

So I get on the tredmill, ramp it up to 3.5 mph and I’m dragging my ass. I ask, “Are you sure?”  I get back “Yes!”.  OK!

Jogging ...

3.5 mph .. 3 mins, 95 bpm, 100 breaths 5.5 mph .. 16 mins, 157 bpm, 500 breaths 3.5 mph .. 5 mins, 115 bpm, 200 breaths 6 mph - 5.5 mph .. 10 mins, 167 bpm, 300 breaths 3.5 mph .. 4 mins, 124 bpm, 200 breaths

I’m exhausted

I did an air squat, and almost fainted when I stood up.

The way you think, feel behave

Does the way you think, feel and behave affect your leadership?

1. Do they create an environment of collaboration?

2. Do they empower employees to take action?

3. Do they engage employees based on their individual motivations?

4. Are they assertive and focused on outcomes?

5. Do they find ways to overcome adversity and resistance?

6. Do they create a culture of clear  accountability?

7. Do they build relationships through open dialogues about goals, visions, policies and procedures?

8. Do they make decisions based on productivity and political temperment?

9. Can they be easily sidelined by their political opponents?

Leadership is .. guiding intent in integrity.

Tuesday - Jujitsu Practice

We had a great night with 8 people on the matts.

Tonight we studied take downs - Single Leg, Ankle Pick, 1/4 Nelson, Firemans' Carry, Baby Fireman's Dump, Under Arms Spin to Knees, and Double Leg Take down.

What most people don't realize about the definition of leadership, "Guiding Intent with Integrity" towards a goal, is that everyone is leading in some small way every day.  Whether it be giving directions to the bathroom, or taking the initiative to clear a jam from the copy machine.  

In the story provided, this example of leadership allowed an individual to become confident enough to give directions on more complicated subjects.  She built that confidence one small step at a time, by gaining support from followers, and by building a series of techniques and strategies that allowed her to become a master of the subject matter.

While she may not know the definition of leadership, she is executing it.  Hopefully at some point she stumbles across the definition, re-orients her training, and helps others become GREAT LEADERS.
