Do you have any tips about starting writing spicy content? I have a willing, supportive, and nonjudgmental beta reader, but every time I sit down to write it feels like I'm about to commit a crime. Any advice?

Edge yourself before sitting down to write.

On a slightly more serious suggestion, I feel what you're say. I get that way too sometimes. I'll have an idea in my head that I love but when I actually sit down to write it I feel like it's dirty or extreme, like I'm about to commit a crime by writing it.

This is why I say "kill the cop in your head." There are no thought police and as long as your beta is ok with it then there's no reason to worry that you're doing something wrong. Sex isn't wrong, writing about sex isn't wrong, and you're not doing anything bad by indulging in your fantasies through fiction. Sit down and write whatever you want with the intention that no one will ever see it, just get really weird and horny with it, then read it back a few hours after you finish and decide whether or not to send it to your beta. You might be surprised by how much less of a crime it feels after you've already written it.

That said, yeah if you need less impulse control and more sexual liberation to write, edge yourself. People make weird decisions when they're horny, and sometimes if I can't get a sex scene to go the way I want or I'm just like "ugh this sucks and I don't know why I'm writing it" I just listen to Badjhur audios or watch porn. Getting yourself in the mood for writing smut is the same as listening to sad songs when you're writing angst. You gotta find a way to feel the vibes.

just imagining johnny texts simon abt something. Simon hardly responds to their group chats because he prefers to stay to himself. you know, typical simon riley. hes nursing a beer on his couch and chilling when his phone keeps buzzing.

annoyed he checks his phone and sees johnny blowing up the groupchat and kyle.

“found ur panties.” Johnny texted and took a picture of simons balaclava thrown on the bed. he left it there from one of their drunk sleepovers.

simon scowls.

he scrolls.

“the man has so many masks, he’ll find a new pair.” kyle wrote with a wink emoji.

simons eye twitches.

he goes to type, fat thumbs moving clumsily on the small screen. “i’ll pick up the baklava tomorrow.”

his phone buzzed immediately.

“baklava?” Johnny repeats.

then he sends an obnoxious voice note laughing loudly, slapping his thigh. at first simon didn’t even know what the hell that note was. he just pressed play.

“BALACLAVA.” simon types in all caps, very annoyed.
