contents: vaguely inspired by the movie, fluff & a lil angst, written with fem!reader in mind, au!where hidden inventory arc didn’t happen and geto stayed as a sorcerer.

“y’know, you never did tell me your thoughts on the multiverse.” the low hum of the dryer tumbling fills the abrupt silence that follows your question, sounds of water repeatedly sloshing around with the obnoxious beaming of a flickering light from above.

suguru raises his eyebrow with a smirk already plastered on his face, “i wasn’t aware you were so eager to hear my opinion on the matter.”

the laundromat was lowly lit but provided enough illumination to see the man across from you clad in a black sweatshirt paired with grey sweatpants. his leg crossed the other while leaning against an unused washing machine. despite the poor lighting, his eyes sparkled with a sense of eagerness to hear you speak.

“don’t start that with me, i brought it up earlier and you told me you’d give me an answer later.” you mindlessly swing your legs as you reside on top of a unoccupied dryer, “so you’ve never wondered what another version of yourself could be doing at the moment?”

“i’m content with my life right now so that never crossed my mind but if i had to guess—” he raises a finger towards his chin “—i’d assume alternative-me is at home, peacefully doing laundry, with a not-so-broken machine.” he teasingly flashes his crescent moon eye smile at you.

you scowl, “you think you’re so funny but i promise you’re not.” a comfortable silence soon falls among the two of you, the clamor of machinery and water splashing slowly gets drowned out by your heavy contemplation. you’ve given much thought about alternative dimensions to the point where it evades into your slumber turning your dreams into unforgettable night terrors.

the horrors seep past the nightime leaking into daylight leaving you anxious almost every single day.

“even if you are content with life, doesn’t it bother you not knowing how your life would’ve turned out if you did or didn’t make certain decisions..?”

the seriousness of your tone catches suguru off guard, straighten out his posture to fully turn his body towards you. you’ve obviously got something more perplexed on your mind that you’re trying to sputter out so he engages the conversation.

“if i let it bother me i’d probably go insane.” he chuckles moreso at himself rather than you.

“fair enough, but just tell me … if you weren’t a sorcerer what would you be?” suguru tenderly smiles at your innocent inquiry, it flashes back memories of elementary teachers asking similar questions during the first day as icebreakers. he can’t pinpoint the exact answer he gave to his class as a youngling but it reminded him of his former aspiration if he had managed to escape the jujutsu world.

“i wanted to be a kindergarten teacher, how about you?” unbearable dread ignites your heart from the sentiment of him not being able to achieve such a mellow dream.

to have a ticking time bomb attached to his lifespan the moment he was born into this world was devastating, although he had accepted his fate a long time ago, he reassures you this is the way life works; some are born into fortune while others suffer misfortune before climbing to the top and even then their happiness isn’t promised.

“then i bet in another universe you’re a kindergarten teacher who isn’t forced to swallow curses.” you had playfulness hinted in your tone but suguru couldn’t help but feel a warm pang in his chest that blossomed throughout him. he truly despised his current occupation not even wishing it on his worst enemies, nobody should have to subject themselves to the cruelty he consumes on the daily. if he had the ability to quit, he would, but then who will protect the weak if the strong have fallen?

“as for me, i think being a librarian would be nice; surrounded by ancient books that carry significant history would be my all time safe haven.”

you then tread carefully on your next question, “do you think…we…exist together in different universes?”

suguru ears perk up by this, he proceeds to walk over to the machine you’re sitting on then slot himself between your legs. his large callused hands roam your thighs giving you a sense of comfort you very much needed.

“i believe my love for you transcends across every single universe.” he presses his forehead against yours, lowering his voice to a mere whisper as if the lingering ghosts of the establishment would hear his next proclamation.

“i’m sure in another universe we just do laundry and taxes together… no heavy responsibilities, no curse spirits, just us.”
