Honestly, every time I see this I am very surprised by the size difference.

And especially because my conclusion is how incredibly strong Joker is! Bruce talks about how fast he is, but rarely is it talked about how much it takes to stand up to one of the most trained people on the planet.

We can put his size/strength into perspective by thinking that he can carry a giant solid wooden mallet by himself.

Have you ever seen a person irl doing log lifting carry a piece of wood the size of someone as big as Superman with this ease??

He can even drag Jason and Tim's dead weight WITH A SINGLE ARM.

It's obvious that he can also carry Batman, he has to put him in traps or tie him up alone. But we actually see him do it and it seems like he has no trouble??? The guy who needs to be carried by two people??? As if he were carrying a kitten???

i can’t read Harleen because when they make joker too human looking it gets weird and uncanny valley and i just can’t do it ( also . because it makes him uglier 🤢 )

my ( PERSONAL ) two things when it comes to writing the joker :

1. he has to be FUNNY. as in, he has to be funny to the audience in the same way he’s funny to himself. in a way he can’t be funny to the citizens of gotham because of their proximity to his crimes. they can’t see the humor in joker because of his being a legitimate threat to public safety, but when you remove yourself from the situation he has to be humorous by nature. it’s the crux of his character. to the joker, it only matters that he’s funny to himself, but because the audience shares his removed perspective, he’s funny to us too (loosely based on the concept of joker’s “supersanity”, which itself i have ambivalent thoughts on)

2. he can’t be (outwardly) irredeemable because it calls into question batman’s morality (unless that’s what you’re looking to do). allowing joker to live if he’s well and truly incorrigible is batman willfully endangering the people he’s sworn to protect on the basis of a faulty moral principle. plus maintaining joker’s humanity challenges his assertion of the whole ‘one bad day’ idea and reaffirms batman’s ideology that no one is truly beyond help.

while i do equally adore an indulgently fucked up and doomed interpretation of the character, these are the two pillars that (to me) are required to craft an emotionally compelling narrative / arc that’s focused on the batman / joker dynamic ^-^
