hii guys, thank you to everyone who sent in requests! iâm working on them now but i apologize in advance because theyâll probably take a while :,)
slipping through my fingers â coral
coral!tbosas x reader
a/n â so much for a break LMAO
notes â in which you grieve over the loss of your soulmate. gender neutral reader (not sure if pronouns came up, although they mightâve. if they did, then feminine intended reader)
warnings â canon character deaths, description of coralâs body after death, angsty kind of. not edited & uploaded via iphone
coral was an angry girl, always had been. angry at the treatment of the districts after the rebellion, angry at the capital, angry at the universe for allowing it all to happen. her anger only intensified when she had been reaped to participate in the hunger games. she had been so close to escaping the system, but life had never been kind to her, why would anything be different now?
despite her aggressive demeanor, she was a protector at heart. with mizzen as her district partner, you knew she never stood a chance. coral would die for the boy if she had to. if it had came down to mizzen and coral, you were sure sheâd get herself killed one way or another so he could survive. all of her anger had been focused into formulating a plan. not to save herself, but to save mizzen. coral really did try her best to allow mizzen to win, tricking the boy from ten into helping them take out other tributes, then killing him. unfortunately, her demise came from the snakes that the gamemakers released into the arena; a rather horrid way to die when you realize that coral had had her fair share of dealing with snakes during her work on the harbor. it was truly unfair to her, it wasnât her fault that some snobby capitol kid had died, why should she have to pay the price? but alas, it was all apart of the capitalâs plan to reduce the districts to mere laborers. thatâs really what the hunger games were for; to strip away any power or dignity the districts had left after the war.
when they shipped coral and mizzenâs bodies back to district four, you couldnât bare to look at her. standing amidst the families of the pair, you were surrounded by the anguished cries of their loved ones. it was enough to bring you to tears. coralâs mother invited you to attend her burial, and swore to give you some of her possessions when they went through her room. but for now, it was too overwhelming for her parents to step in there.
it was tragic, really, how you and coral had only been official since a few months prior to the reaping ceremony. only a few months worth of shamelessly showing her off and holding her hand as the two of you wandered town. of course, you had been âfriendsâ prior to your relationship, but you had to keep the two of you a secret, meeting only in the late hours of the night, when the sun had not yet risen. she had finally posed the question to you in late april, asking you if you wanted to make it official. you recalled grinning, smashing your lips against hers, extremely giddy.Â
âso thatâs a yes?â she had teased, tucking a stray stand of hair behind your ear.
âyes, you big idiot!â you laughed, as you tackled her to the floor, holding her close.
coralâs burial took place on the twenty-sixth of july, two days after her snake-bite ridden body had arrived in district four. her fatherâs desperate attempt to hold it together was unsuccessful, and in all the years you knew the uptight, reserved older man, he was sobbing with a fervor you hadnât seen in anyone before. you released a shaky breath you didnât realize you had been holding as dirt began to cover the dingy, wooden coffin the capital had sent her back in.  grief had you by the throat, silencing your sobs as they gargled in the back of your throat. you wanted to be strong, especially in front of her parents and sibling. if her death hurt you to this extreme, you couldnât imagine how devastated her family was. memories of her flooded into your brain, all the aspects and cherished times; how sweet she had been behind closed doors, the scars that littered her body, which she had earned from her work, how soft her wild red hair was when you tangled your fingers in it, the botched stick and poke on her wrist you gave her that she absolutely adored.Â
it seemed like everywhere you went, a little piece of coral could be found. from the shoreline, where you watched as she dived into the shallow water, fishing out trinkets for you, to the alleyway behind your work, where she had you playfully pinned up against the cold brick, whispering sweet nothings into your ear. your home, too, held many memories of her. the accessories she found while diving cluttered your dresser, a photograph of the two of you taken on her birthday was pinned above your bed, and the promise ring she gifted you was tucked away somewhere safe. occasionally, you dug it out from beneath your bed, pressing the icy metal against your chest as you mourned. your parentsâ attempts to comfort you were to no avail, coral was the only one who knew how to calm you down. she knew you like she knew the back of her hand. the two of you had been hopelessly devoted to each other, and you were certain that she was your soulmate. you didnât know if anyone could replace her, and you knew for sure no one in district four could. she was much too was special, incomparable. maybe you just had to cope with that fact, and move on with your life, her promise ring forever adorning your finger. in another life, the two of you got to have your happy ending. you could only imagine what it would be like to grow old with coral, to see her fully develop into the strong woman she was bound to become.
the capital knew her solely as a vicious killer, cold to the core, but she was so much more to you. of course, the capital always did its best to dehumanize the district people, painting them as rabid beasts, but your coral was far from that. she yearned for love, although she rarely admitted it, she cared for her family more than anything, she was ambitious, determined, dependable, the list was endless. you just wished people got to see the humane side of her before her untimely death.
Love your coral work like it's so so good! I was wondering if you also write for Lamina? If you don't mind I'd love to send a req in soon! And can I be N anon? Take care <33
thank you! and i could probably give writing for lamina a try đ iâm not gonna lie, iâm not too sure how anons work, but iâll try my best lol
Heyy I love your writing and I was wondering if you could write something with Tanner from district ten? Maybe they were pining over each other and get reaped together?
right person, wrong time â tanner

tanner!tbosas x reader
a/n â tanner is THE loverboy of all loverboys
notes â in which you and tanner both confess to each other at the worst possible time. feminine intended reader. read to the end for a surprise :)
warnings â iâm not super familiar with tannerâs character, so it ended up being rather short (if you like it enough to want a part two, i can surely try my best), heâs probably way ooc. not edited & uploaded via iphone
he was screwed. what was he supposed to do, kill you? tannerâs been head over heels for you for as long as he could remember, he didnât think he could hurt you, or even bare to see you injured for that matter. and here you were now, looking oh so frightened as you made your way up to the makeshift reaping stage of district ten. all he wanted to do in that moment was hold you tight and tell you it would be okay, even if he knew it wouldnât be. he just wanted to protect you from harm; you were fragile to him, after all. in reality, he knew you werenât the damsel in distress he made you out to be. you could take care of yourself if push came to shove, you had proven so much at work, where he admired you from afar. here you were now, standing right next to him, possibly the closest heâs ever been to you. he tried to sneak a peek of your shorter form, without making it obvious that he was staring at you. the mayor was saying something irrelevant that he wasnât paying attention to, then he was ripped from his thoughts as peacekeepers dragged the two of you to tenâs train station, thankfully located close by. tanner desperately wanted to break the silence as the two of you waited for the train to arrive, but what would he say?Â
âhey girl, i think youâre super cute and iâve had a crush on you pretty much my entire life.â yea, right. he scoffed, subjecting himself to just tapping his shoe until, much to his surprise, you spoke up.
âyâknow, itâs probably super inconvenient to tell you this now, but iâm probably gonna regret not telling you if i die..â you began, and his head rapidly turned to face you, eyes blown wide in anticipation. âiâve had a huge crush on you for like, a whole year nowâŚâ you averted his gaze in embarrassment, laughing awkwardly as you admitted to your crush on him. tanner couldnât believe what he was hearing. he was genuinely on the verge of asking you to repeat your confession when the train conveniently arrived to take the two of you away. quickly, you scurried ahead of him as peacekeepers loaded the two of you on the train, shutting the doors and leaving you both in the dark. tanner had accidentally slammed his head against the doorway upon entry, muttering a myriad of curses as he placed his fallen hat back on his head.Â
âtanner?â you called out, âi canât see anything, where are you?â you demanded desperately. tanner couldnât stop his face from flushing when you asked for him. thank goodness it was dark and you couldnât see how flustered he was that you were actually talking to him. he was so in awe that he almost forgot to respond.
âuhm- yea! just, uh, reach your hands out, iâm in the corner to your left,â he awkwardly croaked out. tanner could hear you shuffling for a few moments, before he felt your hands grasping his arm. he was lucky he didnât let out an involuntary squeal, it was like all of his dreams were coming true, aside from the fact that he was being sent to fight to the death. even then, if he died during the hunger games he would die a happy man.
ââm sorry if my crush on you totally freaked you out, you can just pretend i never said it, if you want,â you muttered, your hands leaving his arm as you settled beside him. the loss of contact left him heavily disappointed.
âdonât be. sorry, i mean. it kinda did the opposite of freak me out, to be quite frank..â he admitted, turning his face away from you, even though you couldnât see him anyway.
âyou mean you feel the same way?â you asked, cheerfully. unconsciously, you moved closer to him, your legs pressed up against his. tanner felt his face go red.
âyea, for way longer than just a year, mind you.â he informed you.
âcrap..â you mumbled, tone changing quickly as you came to a realization. he turned to you in shock. why would that be a bad thing? âthat makes things much more complicated.â oh yea, the fact that the two of you were about to enter a game where only one person got to come out alive. âgosh, iâm such an idiot, i really shouldnât have told you.â you groaned, throwing your head back against the metal wall behind you. tanner didnât respond, but decided to be bold for once in his life, intertwining his fingers with your own and tugging you even closer to him. even if you were right, and it did complicate things, he would make the most of his time with you before the games. besides, he had waited his whole life to be this close to you, to treat you right and love you like you deserved. and he wouldnât give that chance up for the world.
