Seeing a marburg virus outbreak in 2024 on the heels of a global coronavirus pandemic reminds me of reading a seanan mcguire interview in 2012ish where she discussed how our societal approach to quarantine is a joke & the individual desire for freedom & autonomy over safety gets people killed. I have to wonder what going through the early '20s as someone well educated in viral mutations and infection vectors must've been like. Prophets screaming from a crumbling parapet
Unmute !
You know what I want out of a Buffy reboot? I want a trans slayer. I want someone assigned male at birth but pre-transition to show up with all the slayer abilities and everyone to be like “a boy slayer wtf???!!!” and then she’s like “oh I’m a trans woman” and everyone is like “ohhhhh.” I want the slayer line to transcend biology and genetics. I want slayer powers to be something so innate that it’s tied into one’s own gender identity. Please. Give me a trans slayer.
i needed the full songs worth of this not 15 seconds
The adhd modes of food
1. You ate that burger so fast. You ate that burger so fucking fast and now the whole Red Robin is staring at you god what the fuck
2. You started eating like a normal person, but then you started talking or daydreaming and now the waitress is handing you the check but you’ve still got half a plate of cold fettuccine
3. You were going to go out to eat, but then you saw a video in your YouTube recommendation that drew you towards it like moth to a flame, and now it’s 10 pm and you’ve got an empty bag of tortilla chips in your hand and shame in your heart
4. Mac And Cheese
Anytime someone calls out, I ask them 2 questions:
Is this FMLA?
Is there anything I can do for you?
I don't want, or need, to hear anything about why unless it's a thing that the staff person calling out needs to talk about. Your employer is not your friend. Your employer doesn't care. Your managers or supervisors may care about you as a person, but they are not your friends.

Time to feed unprofessional managers what they’ve been dishing out for far too long.
Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.
a concept:
Shapeshifters who have entirely blank featureless faces and bodies who can look like anyone, but it takes a lot of concentrated effort, time and skill, to mold their features into a realistic human face, similar to putting on a full face of makeup in the morning
so there are shapeshifters who just go “screw it, I’m hungover, too tired, don’t want to bother today” and just go out with a very basic like smiley face thing going on, or really asymmetrical, or only do the eyes very elaborately and leave the rest of the face blank and wear surgical masks, or wear eyepatches so they don’t have to bother doing the other eye etc.
Raise your hand if you’re still bitter that they didn’t shoot the Hobbit in the same format as the Princess Bride
… with Bilbo reading Frodo a bedtime story
(Every Time the story is fancified, you can hear Thorin calling out corrections from the kitchen)

I think I started loving you the second you gave me that name.
I love the idea of 8 orders of knights who use the D8 with barbarians being one of a subset. So I looked up the emotions you were talking about and now I can’t stop thinking about how the hell a knight of gasps is going to constantly stay surprised throughout a fight. Anyway, I can’t wait to play as a knight of constant anxiety!
You kind of hit upon how it basically works - like, the Knights end up having a personal relationship with their emotion, and that axis. Still - if you want to think about it wider, you look at the full level. This is the wheel.

All the coloured areas are a single emotion in the system. So “Surprise” is also “Amazement” and “Distraction.” The most powerful emotions are the ones towards the centre.
So certainly surprise is in there, but amazement is too. And that it’s right by awe, that can work well as well. So the “FUCKING HELL! DID YOU SEE THAT DRAGON!” would push the emotion. In other words, it could work great for an adventurer - they’d peak hard when they first see a new thing, and then likely decrease in a fight, unless something goes wrong (getting surprised, etc). Other emotions end up having different arcs - some emotions tend to be very easy to get low intensity of emotion and hard to get a high one, which ties into which abilities can be activated.
(To choose an alternate one, Rage is an easy one - if you’re not angry at the start of a fight, you certainly will be when that fucking thing hits you.)
I want to do more with the knights if I ever do a fuller campaign edition - there’s some Knights which I feel would work as a less pure-combat character. I have some ideas as a Detective as a Curiosity Knight sort of role, for example. But that’s down the line.
EDIT: Worth stressing, this isn’t something I’ve made up. See here for the source.

I’m sorry, but I was crying with laughter while reading this.
I haven't posted any of my knitting yet, but it will be a thing when I remember Tumblr does pictures, too.
Knitters!
I’m looking for knitters (and maybe even spinners) to follow (i follow from madmiracleworker)
So please like/rb if you knit, spin or even knit lace. I wanna get into knitting more lace and would love to talk to more experienced knitters.
Reblog if you ARE a woman in STEM, SUPPORT women in STEM, or ARE STILL BITTER about Rosalind Franklin not getting credit for discovering the structure of DNA and the Nobel prize going to Watson and Crick instead.

As we approach the Holiday season, think about those less fortunate, and the what the reality of being less fortunate means for millions of American citizens (ie fellow humans) as laid out by the incomparable @seananmcguire
To all the young Millenials about to watch M*A*S*H for the first time, do not be turned off by Max Klinger being a guy in a dress.
For those of you unaware, the character tries several schemes to get out of the army on the grounds of being mentally unfit for service, most notably being a man who wears a dress, which no one buys. It’s played off as a joke but everyone loves him and treats him very respectfully unless it’s a character you’re not supposed to sympathise with.
You might want to call bull on the fact that they’re getting a cheap joke at a man in a dress. But, this man in a dress had a gender identity crisis ON SCREEN (although they couldn’t call it that) and also helped pave the way to allow transgender people into the armed forces.
No, seriously. A congressman who was a fan of the show brought up how Max Klinger cross dressing never was an issue at this M*A*S*H unit and it allowed transgender people to serve in the armed forces!
Add “distress” to your pain scale
Pain scale? More like pain in the booty. No two people seem to read it the same way, and chronic folks tend to downplay their pain.
So here’s an idea: when asked to rate your pain, provide a number to rate your distress levels in addition to your pain levels.
Some examples:
“I’m at a 5 on the pain scale, but my distress is basically a 1 because this is my usual.”
“I’m at a 3 on the pain scale, but my distress is a 7 because this is new pain and affects a part of my body that’s very important to my work.”
It’s a great way to consider how your pain is impacting you—and to get a doctor’s attention where it’s actually needed.
Free worldbuilding idea:
Wizards have the same trust in magic that software designers have in software, which is to say, almost none at all.
“Are you fucking kidding me I worked in a reagrent shop for a few years I don’t trust any of that stuff. Who the hell knows what other components are in the ashes.”
“Yeah I was in the circle that made Alston’s Divine Circle of Teleportation. There’s some pretty nasty corner cases you can get into but the headmaster published it without us. I just take ships. It’s way safer.”
“I call bullshit on that Necromancer channeling spirits of loved ones. What did he say he was using? ‘Medium Conduit Ruinic Circles’? That’s just a bunch of buzzwords slapped together, and they don’t even interact with each other.”
“I’ve been looking at this scroll all morning and I’m 90% sure that the scribe didn’t even look at the standard for pyromancies.”
