hey what if alma shows up and stede gifts the red silk to her. and ed gives her the pearls. and then she sews the pearls into the silk and it becomes a symbol of how ed didn’t think he could have pearls or silk - love or a family - and he has that now. and alma becomes a pirate too and she’s most recognized by the pearls and silk around her neck. the symbol of ed and stede and their love.

look im sorry i drove my car off the bridge over the embankment down the river into the forest and through the front windows of that abandoned clown depot your honor but it literally wasn't my fault. i remembered the vanity fair picture of ed looking upset while wearing THE pearl necklace and started thinking too hard about The Implications of stede giving it to him as an apology gift and ed not forgiving him (yet) but wearing it anyway bc stede said he wears fine things well that one time
