It’s strange, Dean decides, that nervousness still exists in Heaven. Isn’t it supposed to be all rainbows and happiness and lollipops? Maybe he should have a word with Jack about it. He’s considering whether or not it’s too late to back out when Sam appears from nowhere, punching him in the shoulder.

“Hey,” Dean protests, rubbing the sore spot. He was definitely adding “pain from being punched by my asshole brother” to his list of things that don’t belong in Heaven. “What was that for?”

“You’re shaking like a leaf,” Sam announces, much too loudly in his opinion.

“Am not.” Absently fidgeting with his tie, he glares at the door of Harvelle’s like it might bite him. “I don’t think I can do this.”

Sam lets out his trademarked long-suffering sigh. “Yes, you can. Look, here’s the bridesmaids.”

Sure enough, there’s Charlie and Jo gossiping in their matching blue dresses, Kevin hovering awkwardly next to an incredibly excited Jack. Even though he’s God, it is the kid’s first wedding, and Dean’s pretty sure he’s more enthusiastic than anyone else. Honestly, it looks like Kevin is having regrets about being there. If they weren’t already dead, he’d be worried that the dude might have a heart attack.

“We ready?” Sam asks, ignoring Dean practically vibrating with nerves next to him.

“Let’s get this show on the road!” Charlie cheers, and all of a sudden the doors are swinging open and there’s no backing out now and the show is very much on the road.

Dean takes a deep breath, feet rooted to the spot, before Sam gives him a gentle shove in the right direction and instinct takes over. When he turns the corner, his eyes automatically search the crowd, skimming over a hundred familiar faces - Ellen and Jody and his mom and Bobby and all the other people they could fit into the bar - until he finds the one person he is searching for, and he immediately relaxes.

Cas is stood in the center of the room, his usual suit appropriately spruced up by Ellen, and when he meets Dean’s eyes a wide grin splits across his face and Dean’s heart melts. All the worry he had felt stood outside disappeared in a flash, and he finds his face twisting into a matching smile.

“You folks ready to get married?” Ash asks, who is somehow the only person qualified to officiate weddings (not that the formality mattered that much).

“I am,” Cas smiles, taking Dean’s hands into his.

“Me too,” Dean agrees, and there’s no place he would rather be.

Season 16, Time For A Wedding!

The next chapter is up! It’s a bit of a filler, but there is plenty of chaos to come and I had to have Dean and Bobby having a conversation, okay.

Dean Winchester’s wedding… if he was being completely honest, Bobby never thought he would see the day. In the end, he guesses he didn’t live to see it, exactly, but this is as good as it’s gonna get, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“You good with getting Dean there on time?” Sam asks for the millionth time, hovering by the door.

“The same answer as the last twenty times ya asked,” he grumbles in reply. “Now get outta here, or you’ll miss the damn thing.”

Sam nods, shoots him a nervous but grateful smile, and then disappears after his girl. If everything goes right, they won’t see him again until he is standing at the end of the aisle. Bobby’s vaguely aware that he should be surprised Sam can legally officiate a wedding, but there’s a big chance that absolutely nothing at this wedding is gonna be legal, and nothing his boys do or say can surprise him at this point. He’s pretty sure he lost his ability to be shocked after Dean casually mentioned killing Hitler.

“I don’t get it,” Dean announces, abruptly swinging the bathroom door open. “Why can’t I see Cas again?”

Bobby shrugs. “Tradition.”

“Tradition’s just peer pressure from dead people,” Dean mumbles, and Bobby raises an eyebrow.

“You gettin’ ready or what?”

Rolling his eyes, Dean slams the door shut again, disappearing to have another nervous breakdown or whatever else was taking the idjit so damn long.

Cockles

I found out this morning that apparently Misha knows that Cockles exists. So... that’s fun. I’ve never been sure where I stand on RPF, so I thought I may as well read some and decide what I think after. Anyway, here’s what I read!

Revenge of the Subtext by MittenWraith on AO3. (80,064 words).

Descrition:  Things are finally settling back down to normal since Cas gave up his grace to cure Dean of the Mark. Well, as normal as their lives are allowed to get. Sam relentlessly finds new cases to work, one right after the other; but Dean thinks they need a break to let Cas have some purely human fun, for once. It’s true they had a difficult time readjusting to humanity at first, but Dean thinks Cas deserves to do more than ride around in the back seat and follow them on monster hunts. Then again, Dean’s a little bit scared to ask exactly what Cas would want, just in case it doesn’t include spending quite so much time with him. And with Sam (of course).

Sam’s been tracking a series of odd occurrences in Laramie, Wyoming for the last few weeks that looks just enough like a case to finally convince Dean they should go check it out. Whether they like it or not, the goddess responsible for the weirdness in Laramie takes an immediate interest in the three less-than-perfectly-happy hunters who’ve stumbled into her town.

Notes: Absolutely adorable, such a good case and beautifully written. There are some other works in the same series which are also absolutely fabulous!

He Who Laughs Last (The Joke Is on Us) by anoradh on AO3. (4,248 words).

Notes: Once again hit by not reading the tags, but if you read the sequel then that gets sorted out. Also, this is adorable and I actually saw the gifset it was based on afterwards, which confused me for a full minute.

Mistakes Are Better When They’re French by maraudersgirl47 on AO3. (21,791 words).

Notes: This was so sweet -  I love a good hurt/comfort and the way they wrote Misha was amazing!

Notes: This was a really good idea - I remember watching the episode and wondering where Jensen and Jared were!

Notes: The Destiel part of this was phenomenal but the Cockles part was mostly smut, which is fine but made me a bit uncomfy just because I’m ace and I’m not a massive fan of reading it. So, it wasn’t my favourite, but that’s entirely on me for not reading the tags properly.

Do You Know What You Think You Know by ljunattainable on AO3. (5,761 words).

Notes: This was sweet and I loved how everyone assumed they were dating and they still didn’t know.

Description: There's a little surprise in the script for the latest episode, Misha is unruffled, and Jensen is not amused, but he's determined to put on the best damn performance he can, 'cause it's the last season and, hey, he owes it to Dean.

Notes: This was pretty good but it did get me thinking... can you IMAGINE if we got a Destiel sex scene? Tumblr would have imploded. There would be a national holiday.

It’s adorable. The plot is fabulous. It’s my all time favourite fic. Please, I am begging you, just read it.

The first Destiel fic I ever read, and it’s managed to stay with me this whole time.

This was beautiful. It felt hypnotic, almost like poetry, and I absolutely cried at the end.

This was gorgeous! Dean and Cas as parents was adorable, and Jimmy was such a fucking icon I don’t even know where to start. Also, not the weirdest past Cas ship I’ve ever seen (but it’s up there).

Broadway Musical by Griftings on AO3. (12,453 words).

The King and Queen of the crack fics. I adore the ‘did you fuck the Michael sword’ vibes and the formatting just makes everything so much funnier.

How Many Slams In An Old Screen Door [podfic] by Tenoko1 (@tenoko1) on AO3. (1hr 50mins).

Before we were shoved back into lockdown, I used to listen to podfics on the way to/from school, and this has to be my all time favourite so far. The asexual representation was fantastic, the plot was hilarious, and (as always) it was read beautifully.

This has to be thee funniest fic ever written. I don’t make the rules.

Boneless Wings by PallasPerilous (@pallasperilous) on AO3. (4,333 words).

The art is gorgeous (I’d literally just finished watching Pan’s Labyrinth which was terrifying) and it was such a brilliant parody of all the other wing fics out there (not that I don’t love them too!)

Grace by july_19th_club (@july-19th-club) on AO3. (5,164 words).

This was gorgeous and now I really want to see it filmed! It is so much better than the ending we got. I would say the author should work for them, but... frankly, they deserve better.

It Started With a Fanfic Competition by Tenoko1 (@tenoko1) on AO3. (124,487 words).

This was written beautifully. It was so wholesome, not afraid to call the characters out on their usual bullshit, and has genuinely more character development than the entire 15 year long show.

Serendipity by whelvenwings (@whelvenwings) on AO3. (23,891 words).

I absolutely adored every character in this (and thoroughly enjoyed guessing who was going to show up next!) and the plot was fabulous!

The Mute!Cas ‘verse by Princess_Aleera on AO3. (148,656 words).

Oh man. I wasn’t sure at first, but this is now maybe my favourite universe out there. The fluff was unbelievably fluffy, the angst was quality pain, and that’s without mentioning the fact the end had me ugly sobbing. On Christmas Eve.

When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth by Mishafied on AO3. (68,926 words).

Oh my lord, what about this isn’t amazing? The casting was fabulous, the amount of research was obvious and really paid off, and I mean... Jurassic Park AU! It made me desperate to rewatch the films, too.

The Passion of the Christ (and his angelic ex-boyfriend) by Bzzee (@clarafordahwin) on AO3. (4,972 words).

I am going straight to Hell, and it is because of this fic right here. That being said, this is top quality crack and I’ve sent it to everyone I know just for the trip (two of them had never watched SPN. One asked me if Jesus was actually in it).

You Can Keep Holding On by NorthernSparrow on AO3. (352,388 words).

I won’t spoil it, but one of the best plot twists of all time! The exploration of Dean & Cas’ relationship, the detail put into the lore, the foreshadowing... amazing.
