Suggestions Please and Thank You

One of my characters gets a distinctive facial injury. I’m struggling with ideas to make their face looked scarred and almost scary, (Example, Zuko from Avatar the Last Airbender), but not enough that they would look horrific and terrifying to the average person. (Example, The Hound in Game of Thrones / ASOIAF).

For note, this person is a warrior who is defeated and has to wear that shame on his face.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
