There is a street no one lives in—Among the ruins of this city. Here there is a game only children can play. It is called “Otokoyo”; a game of hide-and-seek. But whenever children play this game, one by one they would disappear into the blinds of the buildings. A boy named Hikora joins this game to search of his missing sister that came to play before.

Eight children gather. The street lamps flare though no one is there to light them. An eerie door opens. The game has now begun!

Volumes 1 and 2 are Tomie stories, Volumes 5 and 6 are Souichi stories, and the rest are stand-alone short stories collected from various magazine publications.

Junji Ito is a Japanese writer, penciller, inker and mangaka, who is best known for his horror manga. Some of his notable works include The Enigma of Amigara Fault, daily line Tomie; which is a series chronicling an immortal girl who drives her stricked admirers to madness, Uzumaki; a three-volume series about a town obsessed with spirals, and Gyo; a two-volume story where fish are controlled by a strain of sentient bacteria called "the death stench". His other works are Itou Junji Kyoufu Manga Collection, which is a collection of different short stories including a series of stories named Souichi's Journal of Delights, and Juni Itou's Cat Diary: Yon & Mu, a self-parody about him and his wife living in a house with two cats.

Fishbaiit’s note: (OMFG, I remember that as a kid, I watched and dubbed comic video that was called “The Groaning Drain” and I can’t tell you ENOUGH how much that story gave me nightmares; the voice acting, and the sound effects they added?! I was scared to even shower or go anywhere near the sink. Yet I ended up growing up loving the horror/thriller genre and Junji Ito’s art is just so bizarre and amazing!)

You know how the story goes: girl crushes on guy, girl confesses feelings to guy, and guy mistakes confession for a job application. Okay, maybe that's not how it usually goes, but that's what happens when Chiyo Sakura when she finally got up the courage to tell her classroom crush Nozaki how she feels. Since she doesn't know that he's secretly a manga artist who publishes under a female pen name, and he doesn't know that she doesn't know, he misunderstands and offers her a chance to work as his assistant instead of a date! But while it's not flowers and dancing, it is a chance to get closer to him, so Chiyo gamely accepts. And when Nozaki realizes how useful Chiyo can be in figuring out what girls find romantic, he'll be spending even more time with her "researching" while remaining completely clueless. Fishbaiit’s note: (My sister told me that I was exactly like Nozaki because all I do is think about my stories and characters. I watch something with her and most of the time she’s gonna hear me say “omg that’s so cool! It would be a perfect inspiration for this part of my story!” or “Oh wow, who’s the voice actor for this character?” “I like this characters personality and the way they look, it’s perfect for a character role.” and she gets so mad at me for it.)

This actually seems very interesting! I’ve never seen or heard of it before

KAIBA (2008) - created by Masaaki Yuasa

It’s an existential, surrealist and dystopian anime series with the cutest character designs and AMAZING animation lol. I found the whole series on DVD at my local library and I haven’t been the same since akskdkd.

The central concept is about memories. The series takes place in a universe where it is possible to store, export, override, buy/sell people’s memories. But where is the line drawn between our mind, body, and soul when is possible to implant our memories onto other bodies? What are the societal implications of the commercialization and market demand for people’s memories and bodies? These questions and a lot more are what came up for me when I saw this show.

Some offices have stereotypical dynamics: the chauvinistic pig of a boss who never does any real work; the employees whose goal is to suck up to the boss; the ones whose lives seem perfect; and the individuals who have all the actual work pushed onto them. Retsuko the red panda is in the last group, as she stays late most nights to make up the work her coworkers are too lazy to do themselves. Her relief from the stress of her everyday life comes in the form of singing death metal at a local karaoke club. Night after night, Retsuko channels her grief into a microphone and considers the place to be her own personal sanctuary. Ryou tells Akira that the only way to defeat the demons is to incorporate their supernatural powers, and suggests that he unite with a demon himself. When I finished it, my only thoughts were “Damn…What the hell just happened???” I liked it a lot but come on! I understood it yet I was left with a Why? Question).
