What is your DreamTale story for the fantasy au? Have a good timezone!
Ohboy this might be a long one lol.
Long, long ago, the two races lived in peace in the two realms of the Underweald, known as Eros and Eden. The monsters thrived in Eden a paradise of dense and plentiful vegetation, fruits, and food, the humans doing the same in Eros, the garden of the Underweald, filled with beautiful flowers, glades and forests. The one thing that stood grand and tall between them in the center of it all, was the Erod Tree, a massive, magical tree that went high up into the sky, with large branches that seemed to stretch across the sky to hold onto the sun. It always thrummed with power, and it grew magical apples on each side that represented the halves of the soul. Golden and shiny apples on one side, and pitch black with a purple shimmer under moonlight on the other. That was shared between the peoples, being a hub of trading and learning and all sorts of things.
Even magic was shared between them, mages and boss monsters being helpful guides to the young of that age, and teaching them in the ways of the old magic, and hope.
The queen of monsters was Nim, a highly powerful monster who shared her magic with the queen of humans, Sirai, one of the most powerful mages that has ever existed.
Now, Nim, as you know, was mother to the child twin princes, Dream and Nightmare, Dream known as the child of Daydreams and Nightmare known as the child of Nights Rest, they were the sweetest children that anyone could ever know and they were about as happy as happy could be. The people had even said that they represented the two sides of the Erod Tree. But Sirai had wanted her own family, so she had decided to marry and have one. She had married a man named Silas, and he became King consort to Sirai.
They had often visited with Nim, Dream and Nightmare, the two twins growing stronger and healthy every day, while Sirai and Silas grew tired of trying. Every day, they would meet with Nim, Dream and Nightmare and be reminded of how long it had been taking in order for them to concieve a child of their own. Sirai grew despondent and weak and Silas grew angry and resentful. Angry at Sirai for not having a child, and angry at Nim for having two.
One day, Sirai had visited Nim once more, and Nim could see how everything took a toll on her, so she decided that she would try to use her magic to bless Sirai with a child.
She did so, and Sirai was happy, and rushed home to Silas to tell him about what had happened, but instead of listening he had stewed so much in his anger and hatred that it overcame him and he killed Sirai, pushing her out of one of the windows of his high tower room.
He realized what he had done, and ran to Nim to try and bring her back, but the deed was done and she couldnt be brought back to life. Nim told him that the hatred in his heart is what had led her to be killed in the first place, and that it had shattered not only her body, but her soul as well. She was gone.
He had grown to hate so much that there was no longer a single ounce of love that he had, and only love would even have the power be able to bring her back, but he didnt, and he shattered her soul with his malice, and that of the child that she had, and she was dead forever.
His grief transformed into disgust, his disgust into rage, and his rage into malice. He thought, It was Nim’s fault, it was her who would not have given her a child sooner, it was her that would flaunt her two children before him. “Oh so kind and forgiving and benevolent Nim.” He would think. He followed her, his taunting thoughts growing louder and louder in the echoes of his mind. His desire to get revenge somehow whittling away his sanity.
He found her with the twins, near the base of the Erod Tree. With the buildup of sheer enraged malice he had, he raised up his weapon.
Hidden in his cloak, a sword that dripped sheer disgust and hate so sinful it would not be able to be forgiven by any god. It severed her head, burning through her like a white hot iron.
She dropped, just at the roots of the Erod Tree, and melted into it, her body becoming more of a shell and her soul inhabiting the tree. Silas, having slain the twins mother, tried to attack Dream and Nightmare as well, but Nightmare took the brunt of the blow to protect his brother. Leaving one of the twins wounded and another near to death, Silas ran back to his own realm, and her twins were left to watch over the tree, which was now their mother.
Nightmare was dying, and the hatred that had coalesced on the blade he was struck with, though not as much as what hit their mother, was still slowly burning away at his bones and causing him to start falling. To keep his brother from fully falling down, Dream had brought apples from Nightmares side of the tree and given them to him in the hopes that it would bring him peace or heal him in some way, but it hadnt.
Instead, it took him over, brought him excrutiating pain and melded black, inky corruption to his bones. Meanwhile, the now singular human king, Silas, announced to his people that monsters were now an enemy, that they had killed the humans own queen, and were coming to slaughter the rest of them.
The humans, while skeptical, loved their queen and when hearing about the murder of their Queen followed by the attack on their king, followed their king and went to war with Eden, killing monsters and anyone who sided with them.
A war was started between the two races, beings who were once close friends and comrades going from happiness and prosperity to bloody and brutal brawls that ended with at least one or two corpses and piles of dust.
In the chaos, the twins had to take charge, first ruling together as twin kings to monsters, but they later had to split apart as they had differing ideologies about how they should go about trying to win the war against the humans. Dream wanting to give them a chance to be taught of what happened, saying that they knew not what truly happened and that they could be shown the error of their ways, and Nightmare wanting them to be destroyed with no hesitation, stating that even if they didn’t know, they hadn’t taken the opportunity to even have them explain, instead instantly taking up arms against them.
A divide spread between the two, their differentiating opinions causing a chasm between them that would only be rebuilt with the gods will. With the argument came a fight that also split the monsters into three factions. The ones who wanted them all to be killed, the ones who wanted to try and show them the err of their ways, and the ones who wanted the fighting to stop completely.
A queen arose from the third faction, Queen Toriel, being one of the more powerful monsters of that faction, and they moved to the far East, to live close to the ocean and trade. After another year of fighting, Dream took a faction to the south to the warmer climates to be a welcoming prescence to all that decided to defect from King Silas, while Nightmare took his faction to the north, the cold snow, and jagged rocky mountains providing a safe haven for them, and a hard and ardurous task for those wanting to get into the closed off peoples ice-born land. And Silas took the West, and created a land that flowed off of the power of mages, it was lush and plentiful, but the society built was one that would never bend a knee to even think of siding with monsters.
Thats it!! Haha, that’s just it summed up tbh, its a lot but that’s how it’s been!!
