Okay, The Dark Fortress Au concept: The boys let a sorcerer in and they curse the boys and transform for them into monstrous skeletal dragons and like they're able to shift down into anthropomorphic dragons at best and the curse is permanent after three years and the MC comes in after the curses due date and unintentionally woos the boys and I'm a sucker for angst and dragons so.

Oh my goodness! Dark Fortress my beloved! I keep meaning to write something more for this but I haven't had the motivation. I think you're referencing Beauty & The Beast? The parallels kinda match up so I'm rolling with it. I may have decided to try writing a little drabble cause this idea is very interesting to me...

The Dragons of The Dark Fortress

You didn't have many happy memories. In fact, your childhood had been ripped away when your country was conquered by a mysterious dark warlord. You had been lucky enough to escape but you didn't escape unscathed. Your mind was forever marked by the horrors you'd witnessed and tragically, you lost nearly everyone you'd ever known.

You swore to avenge what had been stolen from you. For years, you trained, honing both your mind and your body. You taught yourself how to wield a sword and how to fight.

Then, you set off for the Dark Fortress. You only brought your weapons, armour, and what supplies you would need for the journey. You weren't planning to return even if you did slay the dark warlord. There just didn't seem to be anything worth living for anymore.

The fortress itself was a lot larger than you remembered, being more akin to a mountain than a castle. Still, you were undeterred and continued onwards until you found yourself at the main gates. It took some time to scale the wall and you had to take a moment to catch your breath, but you were so close now.

A few minutes passed while you rested and mentally prepared yourself for the fight at hand. If you were lucky, you'd be able to locate him before he even realized you were here. It could take a while to navigate the passageways though, especially if you were being sneaky.

Just as you were rehearsing exactly how you would run the warlord through with your sword, an ear-splitting roar rang out. You turned just in time to spot a large blur whoosh past before it began to circle above you. You felt your stomach drop at the sight of the large beast that could only be one thing - a dragon.

It didn't give you time to come up with a plan before diving back down again.

You dodge rolled to the side, just barely avoiding his snapping teeth.

Unfortunately, you weren't fast enough to avoid it's wings or claws and you were dragged from the wall as the beast tumbled down into the courtyard. The impact knocked the wind from your lungs and it took a moment to orientate yourself.

You were pinned beneath one of the dragon's feet and it's claws felt like they were nearly digging into your flesh. It hurt to breathe and you could barely inhale without those razors pressing in further.

The dragon seemed at least partially skeletal, most noticeably in the head, but it's eye sockets were completely empty. A black substance was also perpetually leaking from it's sockets and dripping to the ground.

The beast leered closer until it's snout was nearly pressed against your face. You swear it seemed to grin at how terrified you were, as if it was enjoying tormenting you like this.

There wasn't anything you could do. You'd lost your sword in the fall and this beast was about to tear you limb from limb. You closed your eyes, resigning yourself to your fate.

"Stand down, Dirk."

The pressure on your body suddenly shifted and you risked looking around to see who the voice belonged to.

The dragon that had previously been pinning you to the rough stone was crouching not far away. It still had that unbearable grin plastered across it's skull but at least it didn't seem interested in mauling you anymore.

There was a large shadow cast from behind and when you turned to look, realized it came from another dragon. This one was larger and it's scales seemed to be covered in a tar-like substance. It only had one visible eye, with the other being engulfed in the tar, and it's cyan eyelight seemed to bore through you. With the way it's wings were folded over it's body and the way it held itself, you had a feeling this one was the leader or at least the stronger of the two.

Catching movement up above, you spotted two more dragons perching on the ramparts that were similar in appearance to the first one, although they had different coloured eyelights and one was missing a horn. All eyes seemed to be on you and the air felt charged with tension.

You turned your eyes back to the black dragon and slowly stood up.

It stared at you before leaning down and inhaling your scent. "What brings you here, mortal?" it rumbled.

Somehow, you managed to steel your nerves and keep from stuttering. "I came to avenge my country."

It tilted it's head and studied you for a moment. "All by yourself?"

You felt a wave of anger bubble up in your chest at it's taunting tone of voice. However, before you could retort, the black dragon chuckled.

"I admire your courage, however foolish it may be. Do you truly think you can slay me?" It stood up to it's full height and slowly spread it's pock marked wings in an intimidating display.

You shuddered and took a step back, only to bump into the dragon still behind you.

The black dragon stalked closer. "I thought not," it growled. "However, I can sense a darkness in your soul..."

You felt like you couldn't move, much less speak, or it would eat you alive.

"Pledge yourself to me and I will give you a new purpose..."

What else could you do but agree?

Well Crap, I literally have been thinking about The Dark Fortress dragon au thing almost all day, I mean it's cool concept to think about.

Just some random thoughts I had

• Nightmare prefers to stay in the darkness because he isn't very fond of his dragon form, his tentacles were reworked into four tails or a second pair of wings, he had a crown made for his anthropomorphic form as his old one was broken by his horns growing during the transformation. I would imagine he looks like a mixture of an Eastern style dragon and a European style dragon, and this was something from something from one of the blogs I mentioned before and sorry I can not for the life of me remember which one it was but anyway they gave Nightmare a fear smoke breath that causes any negative emotions to grow.

• Dust is probably one of my favorites in the bad sanses and I remembered another artist with a utmv dragon au and they gave Dust a functional hood for his head and horns and they do give the dragons ears and it's @scarlet97531, Dust would probably would like his anthropomorphic form better than his full on dragon form because it's closer to what he looked like before the curse, and buddy if he's pissed off than you better start praying that he doesn't find you, he's just a pure european dragon.

• Aw Killer the crazy ass dragon, I see this guy having feathered wings with the feathers resembling a greater sooty owl, instead of fire Killer has a venomous bite and he's quicker than a rattlesnake, a he has pretty sharp claws that are close the sharpness of the deadliest of blades, he makes a attachment for his tail that has a sword blade on it.

• Horror is the second largest of the four, just being smaller than Nightmare, I think he would have an incredibly tough hide, He's blind in his right eye(socket), his wings would probably be a bit tattered around the edges from fights and just normal wear and tear.

I have just been really thinking about stuff with these big scaley idiots and I love them and thank you for creating the The Dark Fortress.

These are nice designs! When I wrote the drabble, I didn't put a ton of thought into their designs but I'm a fan of western dragon designs.

I gave Nightmare poc marked wings cause it seemed spooky and I like to headcanon that his goop is mildly acidic. Giving him four tails is such a fun idea though!

I really like your ideas for Killer. He seems extra dangerous and I love the idea of giving him feathers. I debated writing in his soul but couldn't find a way to naturally add it.

I feel silly that I didn't think of Horror being blind in one eye, granted he and Dust didn't really do much. I do like the idea of him missing a horn/having a broken horn.

Project Dragon was a game that was in development for 3 years only to be canceled weeks from its announcement and its entire art and development team laid off by the Phoenix Labs. The game (which would have been called 'Everhaven' upon release) was intended to be a multiplayer sandbox rpg taking inspiration from both Minecraft and Breath of the Wild, with an art style similar to that of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which some of the team members also worked on along with Crash Bandicoot 4.

According to character design/illustrator Nicolas Kole "Our cancelled project of the last 3 years is officially, truly dead as of today (internal attempts to save it failed), and the embargo on the whole body of portfolio work has been lifted". This means that the only way the game has a chance of resuming development is by raising awareness and spreading the word of it's development. I haven’t done much, but I’ve done so here or there and plan on a piece or two with another assassin in a dress !

I do have this though (happens to be Ratonhnhaké:ton too) that i never planned on posting since it’s just a doodle based off that dress trend going around for a while, but yeah !this was from a few months back

Yeah, it's great! But imagine Donovan smacking into all of the walls trying to learn how to use those four wings of his, God if I were I would try so hard not to laugh at him.

Dragon Au Headcanons?

I wrote out bullet points days ago but kept forgetting to actually expand on them... Oh well, here's some little things I thought of, as well as, a few things you sent me. :3 (I should mention that this is all in regards to their dragon forms and not the gaster blaster/humanoid ones.)

The Dark Fortress: Dragon AU Headcanons

They're essentially immortal in the sense that they only grow stronger with age and they aren't affected by most physical ailments. It is technically possible to kill them but their scales make them nigh invulnerable to most weapons so anyone who tries will need the aid of magic. Fortunately for them, mages tend to be rather squishy.

All of them like being pet or groomed, but only by their mortal friend and they all react differently to the idea with some being more open to it than others.

Donovan will only let you touch him when no one else is around and even then, you better not make a big deal out of it. He's a big powerful dragon and you're a puny little mortal; he's letting you live so you better be grateful. Just don't stop halfway through or you'll have a grumpy dragon on your hands.

Dirk loves getting attention, nearly as much as he loves causing mayhem, and you'd be lucky to get him to sit still for ten minutes. He doesn't care if others are around, if anything he'll gloat that you're giving him attention instead, just don't be too affectionate or he might become more unpredictable than usual.

Maul seems like he could care less if you touch him or not and he'll often let you do whatever, so long as you don't approach him from the right side (his blind spot) first. Truthfully, he really likes your attention but as he's a dragon of few words, so you'll have to figure it out through body language.

Reven is in-between. He mostly keeps to himself so you'll have to go out of your way to give him attention. He definitely ignored you at first, hoping you'll get bored and leave, but when you don't, he realizes that he actually really likes the attention.

All dragons have the compulsion to create and protect hordes and these boys are no exception.

Naturally, Donovan has the largest horde although his is mostly books and gold. He's very particular about where everything goes and will get upset if anyone moves or destroys anything.

Dirk mostly collects sharp things, particularly if they're shiny. Although, this isn't limited to weapons as evident by all the cutlery littering his den.

Before being cursed, Maul already had a bit of a problem with the thought of food scarcity and he actively preserved any food he could. Now, his instincts have been magnified and he regularly goes out of his way to hunt and steal any food he can find.

Reven wasn't much of a hoarder before, unless you count him keeping track of all the murders he perpetuated. Now, he likes to collect soft things like scarves, blankets, flags, etc. It would actually be kind of sweet if these weren't collected from the victims of raids he regularly goes on.

You'd think that being a super powerful dragon is all that, right?

Well that's what Donovan thinks anyways, although sometimes he does find himself missing his tendrils or wishing he could read a book without accidentally tearing the pages.

Dirk loves his new form, however he can't exactly pull any partners with how large he is now.

Maul has possibly the hardest time adapting out of all of the boys since he's even more clumsy than before.

Surprisingly or unsurprisingly, Reven could care less, especially since he can kill things easier in this form.

They actually really like when you tag along for adventures, although don't get any ideas of becoming a dragon rider anytime soon.

Donovan will smack you over the head with his wing if you ever bring up the idea of saddling him.

Dirk may not mind too much as he's hard to keep up with even on the ground, but don't let the others know.

Maul welcomes the idea since you can watch out for threats and he knows exactly where you are at any given time.

Reven doesn't like the idea either but he'll give in after he realizes that it isn't very safe to ride him without a saddle.

Each of them have their own way of fighting although some of their techniques have been simplified now that they're massive creatures.

Donovan prefers to use his tails to send foes flying in close combat but otherwise uses his breath weapon or magic.

Dirk almost exclusively uses a special blade he fitted to the tip of his tail, although his bite packs a mean poison too.

Maul prefers the simple approach of throwing his weight around and he makes good use of his claws, teeth, horns, and even wings.

Reven actually switches up his fighting style, opting to use his breath weapon and magic rather than getting up close to enemies.

As dragons, they enjoy being worshipped or admired to some degree.

Donovan already desired to rule over the whole world and this desire was only heightened. He demands respect from everyone - be they human, monster, or beast alike.

Dirk revels in the idea of being revered. Unfortunately, he wouldn't be a good ruler at all as he has no experience and his ego would be his own downfall.

Maul can't deny that it's appealing when people admire and respect him. Although, the poor guy doesn't want to actually rule over anyone and his trauma would likely hinder his ability to do so.

Reven definitely gets a power trip whenever people fall on their face and beg him for mercy. He also has no interest in ruling as he'd sooner slaughter anyone stupid enough to stick around when he's raiding a village.

They each have scars; some that carried over from their old forms and some new ones.

Donovan has poc marks on his wings as the corruption didn't mesh well with his dragon form at first and his right eye is still covered by said corruption.

Dirk mostly has new scars from weapon strikes, thanks to him preferring to get up and close in a fight, but his warped soul is still the same.

Maul actually had his scars carry over, as evidenced by his right horn being broken and being blind in the same eye.

Reven hasn't sustained any obvious new scars but you wouldn't really be able to tell if he even has any in the first place since he tries to conceal them with his hood and wings.
